Orange box around clips

Post by Peem »

In VS 2021 I sometimes get clips in edit screen surrounded by an orange box with handles and sometimes not. Wasn't in previous versions. Any suggestions please? Peter

Hi Peter
There is an icon on the navigation bar (below the preview screen) to the right of the 16:9 icon called Distort Tools
This expands for Scale Mode and Crop Mode
I suspect Scale Mode may be selected

Thanks Trevor,
Spot on although it took me a while to realise I could unclick scale and crop rather than just switch between them. Also, it seems the PDF manual no longer has a search function.

I should add that I now realise this happens if I first place the image to the overlay track, which I sometimes do to aid positioning further along the timeline. On previous versions the size handles disappeared once moved to the top track but in 2021 it seems they must be switched off as you suggest.

What do you mean by "PDF manual no longer has a search function."? The search option is function of the Adobe Reader and works just fine.

The difficulty is, though, that for many users -- me included -- when we go to Help > User Guide (PDF), we don't have that open in Adobe Acrobat Reader, but in in our browser. In my case, that's Brave, though others will find themselves in Chrome or Edge... And within that page there is no obvious Search command or magnifying glass. However, in my case -- and I am pretty sure about Chrome and Edge as well -- if I go up to the top right of screen just below the X close command button, I find a button saying "Customize and control Brave". I imagine the other browsers will have similar wording. And in the menu which appears when you select that there is a Find command which works in any active page in the browser, including the VS User Guide (PDF).

In any case, the Help topics at the very top of the Help section open much the same as the PDF and do include a big Search box at the top. I see that Peem is using VS 2021 and it certainly does this.

And if you download the PDF to open separately, you can then open it with whatever is your PDF viewer, whether that is Adobe Acrobat or another program (in my case Nitro) or a browser which can open PDFs (such as Brave, Chrome or Edge). And as canuck suggests, if you open in Adobe you will find a search function for it, as I can in my Nitro. And I've already covered Find in the browser.
