Google Script Error in PsP 2019 Won't Go Away!!

Post by Nells250 »

HI all

I just installed a new, retail-boxed version of PsP 2019 and, as usual when I try to upgrade to a "modern" version, I am having an issue.

I am getting a script error that will NOT go away! It seems to have something to do with a Google map feature. I can't find any settings to prevent connecting to the Web, etc in order to make it stop. Click all you want, even with Windows Task Manager, it won't stop!

HELP??

No suggestions?? I received a support email telling me to delete TEMP files, use the "clean up" tool, then reinstall. I am in the process of doing that right now but I don't see how that will solve the problem. I'd still like to know what folks here think is the issue.

There isn't a concrete solution. There is a very large discussion on this problem already. Not really sure why you bought 2019 when we are already on 2023.

This occurs because the API key Corel was using to use Google Maps with geolocation functions expired when Corel and Google couldn't agree on terms.

A quick summary: If you aren't going to use the Manage Mode there are ways to force PSP into edit mode and avoid this altogether.

If you do want to use manage mode, especially if you want to use geolocation. The best option is to setup your own Google maps API and replace the key in the files. (Free level is good enough for most people)

If you only want to use manage but not the geolocation There may be a way to edit the files to remove the problem.

What do you want?

I did manage to set up my own Google Maps API and get geotagging working again in PSP202. However it has now broken once more for reasons I can't easily find so I have given up with PSP for geotagging. (My Google Maps API is still current.)
I will bite my tongue on my thoughts of Corel's unannounced depreciation of features they used as a selling point.
When PSP was in a loop with the error message, I used Task Manager to kill the PSP processes. The manage function is OK unless you select the globe symbol for map mode.
(EDIT - before it broke again, I recall getting some Google-based warnings saying that the browser was non-compliant. The browser used in map mode is almost certainly coded into PSP and not one installed on the system such as Firefox or Edge)

Couldn't find it when I did a search here

Because not all of us are made out of money :x

I may have found a solution to the problem. The email I received from the "help desk" seemed like the usual run-around suggestion (clean uninstall, reinstall) but so far it SEEMS to have worked:

*Delete Temp files.
1. Hold down the Windows and 'R' keys on your keyboard.
2. Type the word: %temp%
3. Hit enter.
4. Delete the items in the Temp folder.
Skip all files that cannot be deleted (there will usually be about 3 to 5 temp files in use by windows at any given time which cannot be deleted) Close out of the temp directory

Kindly use the below link to uninstall the program.

Check for the Windows update if any available kindly install the Windows update first.

And Download the PaintShop Pro again by using the below link.
Link: https://paintshoppro.com/en/pages/download/

Once the download gets completed, run the exe file. Prompt screen will appears in your screen. In that click on Save without doing any changes. Once the location has been saved, Folder will opens up.

In that click on PHOTOPRO folder and run the setup file for PaintShop Pro.

I wonder if using the DVD-based software vs. downloading made the difference. I never thought an older program was still downloadable! Never were in the past when I needed help with other versions of Corel software.

Aaaah, I see why I didn't find the topic when I searched... I didn't use the term GEOTRACKING because I didn't even know, at the time, what feature was causing the error. I'll have to dig deeper into that thread when I have more time. But it seems a simple OFF or DISABLE option would work well ;-)

Corel (usually) do not fix problems, just try and sell you a new version
