Re: [Sticky] - What do you like/not like about PSP2023
Corel needs to improve the AI Background Removal feature to recognize objects. It currently only works for people and that isn't useful for me as I don't take portraits - I take product photography.
Also, they need to put the adjustment sliders that are unique to AfterShot and incorporate them into the Complete Workspace, so that I don't have to keep using different tabs when I want to adjust contrast, brightness, sharpness, fill light etc.
Thirdly, I wish Corel would automatically make layers when I try to change something about a picture instead of me having to make a layer and then adjust that layer. If anyone on this forum has ever used Photo Pad by NCH, you will know the benefits of Photo Pad's work flow where the program automatically makes a layer with each edit you try to perform.
Other than that, I think Corel is quite good.

What do you mean by "...when I try to change something about a picture..."?
Do you want a layer each time you paint with the Paint Brush or use the Clone Brush or erase something, etc.?

The missing 32bit version is a huge blowback for me! I have a lot of older plugins I use regularly. They don't work with 64bits. And there is no easy replacement available.

PSP2023...Tried it a few months ago. It crashed over and over. Got the money back. Back to PSP2021 which work fine. Tried it again a few weeks ago, still crashes over and over. Back to PSP2021.

This version of PSP is an absolute crock of the proverbial! Massive let down having used PSP since the Jasc days and multiple versions since, with 2018 being the last. It's almost as if it been developed to slow down your workflow and probably features added by blue haired quota hires that don't have any real world experience of using the actual software.

Re: [Sticky] - What do you like/not like about PSP2023
I've discovered a few things that greatly helped with 2023.
The first thing I did was in RUN put %TEMP%, select all files and delete... then select the 'do this for all files' option and 'skip'...It will leave about 3 files so close out.
Next delete the imageDB.db file in psp2023 AppData and restart. This solved a lot of issues.
The final thing that made a world of difference was changing my laptop's 1TB Hard Drive for a 1TB SSD. (Dead easy to do and cheap as chips) Not only does the laptop fire up in seconds, psp2023 now opens up much faster, renders the image better and I've not suffered any more crashes.

On my computer the AI Background Removal feature only works once. If I repeat it it doesn't function any more and it leaves the picture as it was (although the preview works). Weird.

Re: [Sticky] - What do you like/not like about PSP2023
I have used Paintshop Pro since the JASC days. Until recently, I continued using PSP-9 (Jasc) and loved it. I finally made the jump to a "modern" version (PSP-Pro 2023) with expectations of a huge leap forward given I was using a nearly 20 year old version. So far, I am very disappointed with what I am seeing and wish I didn't spend the money. PSP2023 seems to be nothing more than a new face on an old piece of software. It continues to have many of the same limitations it always had. And most of the new features are very buggy. The UI is terrible. The dark toolbars, palettes, and menus make the tool very difficult to see. These colors should be customizable (without having to purchase anything). There is an option to set things to "Light Gray" but even that isn't light enough.
Then the basics. The old PSP (Jasc) versions supported many image formats, but for some reason lacked support for very common formats like ICO. At the time (20 years ago), this was a very popular Windows format. 20 years later in PSP-2023 and ICO is still not supported. Support for SVG is grossly limited and very buggy.
Equally as annoying is the fact that even though I paid (for Ultimate) I am still bombarded with advertisements at startup, the welcome page, and the occassional system notification. Are you serious with this??? I did not pay for add to be in my face. I am trying to complete a task. If I was ok with ads I would use a "free" solution.
I am hopeful that Corel will address some of these issues and limitations in the 2023 version because if not, I am unlikely to every pay for another version again.

Re: [Sticky] - What do you like/not like about PSP2023
Like all those who come here, I have a particular affection for PSP, the program with which I started graphics and photo retouching, and every time I step away from it to try elsewhere, I inevitably come back to it... to version 9 (for the most part) or the aesthetically beautiful version 14 with its highly identifiable icons, which today runs correctly on a wartime PC. I only use the recent versions, including 2023, for one thing: AI enlargement, which is a marvel of its kind.
We're still wondering what the target is for PaintShop Pro, which is too complicated for beginners and not consistent and stable enough for seasoned users. Why not make a PSP Element by removing the advanced tools and using AI to simplify things as much as possible? For the hardcore version, where mathematicians would have been needed, PaintShop Pro chose the marketing route, and I hope they sell a lot of brushes today... I can't wait to discover the new version with its new "Sea to Shop" tab. In any case, we'll have to make do with this hybrid version that PaintShop Pro has become.
Question to users: on version 2023, it's the AI that takes care of the JPEG artifact, it's no longer adjustable...?!!! What happened to the "clarify" command?

PSP2023 choppy clone tool
Hello there.
So I've been psp user since version 4. Spent a lot of time on version 6 and almost eternity on last good JASC version 8.
It has its quirks but for most of things it's great even numerous years later.
But since we're waving goodbye x86 era I thought it's time to upgrade. And ,oh boy... I think I've picked the wrong year.
Let me just list the most annoying things while there's still chance them being fixed (not holding my breath tho):
- The non-native interface is SO annoyingly slow. Switching from "Adjust" to "Edit" takes ages. I can see menu rendering
.
Also pinned palettes randomly show up when UI is being redrawn upon changing tools
- switching to Edit also forces you to close/save any already opened pictures there.
- the crop tool has a floating tool bar and there's no option to remove it and show it in normal toolbar. Strangely It vanishes if you zoom the picture in and the window snaps to the picture. I mean, ok, so it can be done. GIVE ME THE OPTION.
- and the creme de la creme, and that's a deal breaker for me, clone tool. It does the clonning but it skips every couple of pixels making it unusable.
See it here, compared to how it works in PSP8: https://imgur.com/fVuVXhY
Is is just me, or is it messed up this badly for real?
I tried disabling/enabling pressure device and hardware acceleration, and any option I could find that could be vaguely related to this issue and nothing changes.
Is there remedy to that?
I'll be using it for some features but I feel I'd rather use gimp as my daily driver than psp2023 and I don't even like gimp.

Oh, I'm taking it back then.
Thank you!
Last place I'd look for that setting tho.

How about the clonning tool. Does it work as bad for you as in my video or it is "just me"?

Hi. Thank you for taking time to create this video.
Could you move the mouse slower though? Almost pixel by pixel. If I go as fast as you it is not as noticeable yet it's clearly visible with slow movements.
Also I see you are using "ultimate" version which may work differently? (grasping at straws)
