Does DVD workshop support dual layer minus only?

Post by CEBrowning »

Tried to burn dual layer plus DVDs and the operation failed after 45mins. Does this mean that plus ones are not supported? Does anyone know if it's DUAL LAYER minus only?
Hope you can help. :?

Unless error from my end, this has nothing to do with DVD Workshop but with your DVD Burner.

Suggest that you look at the spec of your DVD Burner and make sure you have the latest firmware.

Do you have the latest WS2 patch and, as the previous post suggested, the latest burner firmware. AFAIK, DVD-R DL are no longer made, only DVD+R. There are also such things as the occasional faulty disc or a speck of dust,

CE Browning 2nd question

Thanks for response on my burning problem, I am using a Sony DRU-700A
which appears to only support Dual layer DVD+R discs, they did actually burn the disc at 45% in before showing error. I have installed the Workshop patch to enable dual layer burning. But still a bit confused, should I upgrade to a burner that will burn both DL + and - (Pioneer DVR-110D ?) but more to the point does DVD workshop 2.2 actually burn both DL DVD+R and -R discs
Interesting to hear comment on the non availability of DL DVD-R discs, which leads me to ask what should you buy in the future.

WS2 does not burn any discs. It provides a datastream allowing the necessary hardware to burn them and I believe there is no difference whatsoever in the stream according to the disc type. In fact, I have burnt the same ISO file to both +R and -R.

It is the burner itself that detects whether a blank is + or -, SL or DL, and the type of photosensitive layer and makes the adjustments accordingly.
