Randomly stopping at one point in editing (also cuts off in rendering at same point)
Hi there,
I'm working on a project and it seems to stop playing at a specific time, no matter what I do. It only stops if I'm playing the video together, but if I click on this one clip where it stops, then it plays through that part. I can click past the stopping point a few seconds and then it plays the rest of the video normally. Still, in the rendering process, the video ends at the point that it has been stopping in the editing process. I'm not receiving any error messages either, so there's nothing to really follow up on. I've tried getting support through the Corel support team both through email and phone, but they are either useless or unresponsive. Anyone have any ideas on what this could be? Is there other information you'd need to help me diagnose this? I know little to nothing about computers so I'm having a LOT of trouble trying to figure out what's going on.
Thank you for taking a few to read and help if you can!
Sincerely,
Jake

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Exactly where does it stop playing, start of a clip, end of clip, middle of clip, is there anything else at that location, transition or text, has the clip had any filters applied, if so, which ones
Clip properties
We need that sort of information before we can offer possible solutions

To get the Properties of the video, right click the clip in the VS timeline, and select Properties. Then either take a screen shot of the Properties box and post it here as an Attachment, or else copy it all out and post it manually. To post an Attachment, you might want to read para 2 of this sticky towards the top of the PaintShop Pro forum: https://forum.corel.com/viewtopic.php?p=394704#p394704 It is the same process for all the forums here.
It would also be useful to know what camera you used to take the video and if all the video in the project came from this one camera or from several.

Re: Randomly stopping at one point in editing (also cuts off in rendering at same point)
Hi everyone! Thanks for trying to help.
RobertOZ: It stops in the middle of the clip and there is nothing else at that time stamp. I'm assuming it has something to do with the specific time stamp because even if I delete the clip and play, it stops at the same time stamp. There aren't any filters or anything else on the clip either.
Ken Berry: I used my iPhone to film. I have to upload it to Google Drive from my phone and then download it to my computer before I upload it to Corel Video Studio. I tried redoing every step of that process and the stopping point still happens. It's nothing wrong with the file itself because when I play it, it does not stop at that point.
Asik1: I don't think I set the preview bar. That little marker you pointed to in the attachment is posted all the way at the start and end of the full video, not at any point in the clip.
Thank you all again!

It stops even when is nothing there?
What VS is it?
show us a screen shot of your timeline with and without that clip.
It's just that file or any Iphone file?

It doesn't stop when nothing is there, but stops when any clip is there. It's Corel Video Studio 2022. It's only happening with this one clip from the iphone file. This has never happened before with any other iphone file I've used.

In an earlier post you stated that there were no filters or anything else at that point. Your attachments though do show that you have applied some filters or effects to the clip.
What happens if you single step through the problem area?
What happens if you convert the mov file to a mp4 file and use that clip?

Oh I apologize! There's a fade in, but I believe that's it. I'm not sure what you mean by single step. I can click on just before 24:49 and around or after 24:59. That 10 second chunk won't play. I just tried converting the file to an mp4 from the mov and using it. The problem is still there

Re: Randomly stopping at one point in editing (also cuts off in rendering at same point)
Single stepping applies when there are several filters and/or effects in the one video. The first step is to remove one of the filters/effects and then see if that makes a difference and the problem goes away. If it doesn't, then you go to the second filter/effect and remove it and see if it makes a difference. If not, go to the third and so one: a single step each time.
What program did you use to convert the mov to an mp4? Some of us here use the freeware Handbrake converter...

Oh thanks for the clarification. I've already tried single stepping with the clip then! And I used adobe to convert it.

Does the pause in playback only happen with Video Studio.
If it cuts off at rendering do you get any error messages.
If you play the original video using one of your media players does the Mov file play correctly or is there a pause in playback

Did you use the frame counter(.000) in the Preview panel to single step through the problem area? If yes, what happened?JakeStone7777 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 01, 2022 10:22 pm Oh thanks for the clarification. I've already tried single stepping with the clip then! And I used adobe to convert it.

Re: Randomly stopping at one point in editing (also cuts off in rendering at same point)
Lata: The pause only happens in Video Studio and it doesn't show error messages with the rendering process, but when it's finished rendering, then the completed video cuts off at the random stopping point. The original video works fine to play all the way through.
Cannuck: I'm sorry I don't understand what you mean by that. Can you explain a bit more what you'd like me to do? I followed Ken's description of single stepping and nothing in particular that I take away impacts that stopping point.
Would anyone be willing to let me give them the file somehow and try seeing if it happens on their end too?

Can you zip up and post only the VSP file so others can look into it? Only the VSP file.
