How to remove the centre of a picture

Post by Rosemary »

Hi, I would like to remove the centre of this picture so as I can place other images behind the "porthole" I am using Corel PSP 2022 Ultimate.
Thanks in advance,

Rosemary

Since this image already opens as a full raster layer you don't need to worry about promoting it, but just know that if the image opens as a background layer you will need to either duplicate it or promote it in order to erase.

As for removing the center you have two main options: 1) Use the eraser or 2) Use a selection and delete or use a mask. My preference is to use the smart selection brush to quickly drag along the porthole to select the sky and ocean very quickly. Or you can use the auto-selection tool to quickly select the porthole, which in my tests always also selects the yellow area, so to clean up I use the smart selection brush set to "remove" mode and quickly brush that yellow area out of the selection. Both are very quick.

Then once you've got your selection you can either hit the Delete button on your keyboard to clear the selection erasing everything. Or you can use a Mask to non-destructively remove the area. Just go to layers -> Mask -> Hide selection.

Hi LeviFiction,
Thank you so much. Your method using the smart selection brush worked beautifully. Nice clear instructions.
