Been using C3D and C3DS for years, and have recently come upon an interesting issue...
Just recently starting using MLcad (as part of LDRAW), which is a CAD modeling freeware app which uses LEGO blocks as its primary shapes. Once a piece is created, it can then be exported (through a variety of third party apps) to a number of 3D formats. One of these is the .3ds variety (for 3D Studio Max). Here is my problem...
When I export the finished object as a .3ds model, it looks terrific. But then when I import it into C3DPS (as a D3D model), it is transparent. All of my texture information is gone.
I guess I could just extrapolate the LEGO model into its different similarly colored parts, import it as a C3C, then just add colors and stick them together that way, but it would be more efficient to just use the finished model and import it directly.
Has anyone tried this, and if so, any words of wisdom you could impart?
Importing 3D MLcad Models
Bill,
Some reasons why your textures are not showing up. It may be that they cannot be found because they are not in the expected directory. 3D Studio Max requires that all images be in the same directory and have the same name preceding all textures being applied, for example "tex.big.jpg" and "tex.small.jpg". The other possibility is that your render states have not been set up incorrectly. You may have changed them for some other rendering and not set them back correctly. Hope this helps.
