VS2021 Fails to start on Windows 10 Pro New System

Post by Dave TY »

Hi,
I have read all the other users messages on the issue I am having. ( VideoStudio 2021 Ultimate stops at Splash Screen, won't load)

I have a brand new System Windows 10 Pro, all the latest firmware and drivers updated. System works perfectly.
Clean install of Video Studio 2021 Ultimate including Bonus features. On restart and opening VS2021 the Splash Screen came up for about 3 seconds then disappears. Programme is not displayed.
I uninstalled the Programme and removed any orphaned folders and Registry links. Reinstalled again using the Internet download, however did not install New Blue Bonus features, as some users thought this was a cause of the issue.
The Programme still shows the splash screen then disappears with no trace of the program running.

I contacted Support and clearly stated that I was installing the Programme on a Windows10 Pro New System.
This was my reply ... from Corel Support.

EXTRACT from email:

Mr./Ms.,

Thank you for contacting Corel Customer Support Services. My name is Rishmitha and I have been assigned to your ticket.

Regarding your concern, I would like to tell you that Windows 7 is not compatible for VS.

Please do not hesitate to contact us with any further questions.

Regards,
Rishmitha
Corel Customer Support Services
**********************************************
END of email.

WHAT THE HECK? DId the Customer support representative even read my support ticket? Apparently I don't even have a name (Cut and Paste reply)

I sent a request back for someone else to respond to my ticket as clearly this person has no idea what my concern was or did not understand English.
I just want my Software that I paid for to work on a clearly new and over specced PC. Is that too much to ask? Corel??

I have been a user of Corel Video Studio for many years and have purchased many versions from Corel for at least 10 years from the early versions up until 2021.
If this is the support that Corel claim give to long time loyal users then maybe it is time to stop buying software that is buggy and unreliable and has non existent Customer support.

I am open to help from Corel if they can provide me with a proper fix for why my PC and many others PC's are having this same issue.
Corel ... Stop burying your heads in the sand, provide Customer Service and Support and your loyal customers will support your Products. If you don't then you are on a downhill slide.

I wait to hear back with a timely fix for this issue.

Regards,
Unhappy user who can't even use the software I paid for..
Dave.

As you know the problem can be caused by a number of things. Have you seen https://forum.corel.com/viewtopic.php?t=68889 (Video Studio 2021 Ultimate does not start)?

Hi tletter,

Yes, this link was one of the posts that I was referring to on my first sentence regarding this issue. I have researched the forum looking for answers and have tried all the various 'fixes' from within this forum with no result.
I don't use Power tools as was mentioned in that link and I have also tried renaming the uvDV.dll file as mentioned to see if this would work, however it did not.

My frustration stems from being able to use VS2021 on my old Windows 7 Pc (slow but it worked) and I built this new PC to make the experience faster, smoother and more enjoyable and perhaps more productive. Not being able to load a clean install of a programme that I paid good money for and have it work out of the box seems to be a little bit disappointing to say the least.
I guess if it doesn't work as intended, I'll find a new programme that does work and never look back.
Thank you for your assistance.

Regards, Dave

Hi Trevor,
Yes I have received another email today from Customer support. Ticket #3545803

Customer Support agent Rishmitha has asked me if I am getting any error messages or prompts. To answer that question, No I am not receiving any error messages. The programme just appears to close just after the splash screen appears, no prompts or errors displayed.
I was also asked to screen shot the error if available. That I can not do as there are not any.

Is there any way that I can find an error log in the system for VS2021 and where I might find that would be most helpful?

Regards,
Dave

Hi tletter,
Thank you. Yes I checked the Event Viewer last night after 3 unsuccessful attempts at opening VS2021. It shows nothing as an error or crash.
I thought perhaps VS may have logged its own error log somewhere within the system.

I have found Davinci Resolve 18 and although it has a much steeper learning curve than VS2021 ever had, it is giving me results with no issues, no crashes and super quality.
I feel I will just leave VS2021, take it on the chin as a lesson learnt and move onto an editor that is reliable and works first time every time.
Best of all it is FREE!

VS log files are located in c:\ProgramData\VideoStudio Log Files, unfortunately, these files are meaningless to us and can only be sent to Corel if they specifically ask for them

On my system, these are only setup log files that are generated when VS is installed. They don't record events associated with either a crash or failure to launch.

Unfortunately there don't appear to be any VideoStudio log files that help to troubleshoot either crashes or failures to launch. Occasionally Windows' log files will help.

Thank you.
I wonder why the Customer support did not request them if they could possibly assist in sorting out this issue.

There was an issue with registration fixed by deleting the Corel Messages
Just a though that doing this may help here

You should also delete the folder 24.0 from, this folder is used as a reset option for Video Studio 2021, a new folder will be generated when trying to run the program.

Hi Trevor,
Thank you again for your assistance. Today I uninstalled VS2021 Ultimate. I downloaded the VS2021 Cleaner tool from Corel and ran it and it completed successfully. I then went looking for orphaned folders and files relating to the Corel install that the VS Cleaner did not remove. New Blue folder and a few others. These I deleted manually.
I then ran a program to check my registry files and orphaned links. This also found various links to files that had not been deleted during the uninstall.
Again I checked System folders as you described to ensure that there was nothing left including the infamous 24.0 folder. All gone and the system has been cleaned of any previous Installation.

I ran the VS studio Installer tonight and it downloaded again a fresh copy of the complete programme. It asked me to input my Serial number that it accepted, then it asked me to verify my email address , that it also accepted. It then asked me to Install all features (recommended) or Custom. I chose the recommended ALL features.
It installed the programme and the message reported a successful installation of the VS 2021 Ultimate.
Click Continue to open and then the Welcome screen appears. It lets me use the file menu and check preferences etc. I did not change any settings. I clicked on New Project in the file menu and the programme drops out. No error messages.

I went back to my Desktop and clicked the VS2021 Icon and it opens the programme to the splash screen then drops out almost immediately. Hmmm.....

I am a very patient person, worked for 3 decades in the Automotive Industry in Technical and Electronic as an engineer. I am fully aware that software has issues on different systems and sometimes the simplest thing can affect the normal operation of a programme. However when software refuses to work on a System that is using common hardware and when multiple customers are having the same concern, it makes me wonder if the software itself is just buggy or needs a complete overhaul to make it work reliably on the average system. I just wanted it to work.

I will be uninstalling this programme Corel Video Studio Ultimate 2021from my PC and I doubt I will ever reload it again. It is just wasting too much of my time and giving me that bad taste in my mouth every time I click the open icon and it fails to work, that someone somewhere has not done their job properly to test this software and make it stable and useful to the general loyal customer. I will move on with another programme that I have found online that is free, has more features and best of all it opens and saves my work when I want it to. No Issues.

Once again I thank you and all the others who have tried to assist me in my endeavours to get this VS2021 working properly on my new PC. After buying many versions of this programme over the years and telling many friends how great it was, I am thoroughly disappointed with the product now and will not be recommending it to anyone ever again. Sorry but I have to be honest with them. I will be recommending the free programme that I will be using from here on.

I guess the ticket may now be closed as I will not be requiring Corel Customer Assistance any further.

Kind regards,
Dave

Hi Dave
I have sent you a PM

I do not know if you are aware or tried this option.

New Blue filters have apparently caused the program to fail, advice from Corel was to Install Video Studio 2022, then before launching the program go to…..
C:\Program Files\NewBlueFX\uninstallers
uninstall the New Blue filters, then try running the program

I realise these instructions refer to 2022 but just maybe it also affected 2021???

Hi RobertOZ,
Thanks for the info. As you can see in my previous messages I am no longer going to try and use VS 2021 on my new PC. It works on my old Win 7 ( just) if I need to use it again.
I have decided to learn video editing on DaVinci and can see the benefits already with the new software.
It's not as intuitive but it works.
Thanks for your help, I shall go away and enjoy my editing.
Cheers,
Dave
