Big Problems with VS 8.01

Post by excelmonkey »

I have been having alot of problems with VS 8.01. Can anyone help me as I am considering tossing it altogether unless I can figure out what I am doing wrong or what the softare is simply not doing.

1) I accidentally deleted my ENTIRE video library. I was deleting all the thumbnails and when I deleted them, it then asked if I wanted to also delete the source file as well. As I was jet lagged (just got off a plane) I must have missed the distinction in "source file" piece and lost absolutely everthing I have ever captured. I cannot believe it even gives the user the option to that without providing additional warnings messages. I lost hundreds of hour of work. Is there a way to click on an option to provide this extra layer of security?

2) I am having a problem burning my files to DVDs. When I go to SHARE, Create Disk, Next, Next: I have Record to Disk checked off. When I burn it goes through a couple of rounds (Coalating Video, Video/Audio Multiplexing, VoXb) and my status bar reaches 100%. Then what looks like the actual burn I get an error message saying:

Failed to Recored data to disk
DVD+RW-SPTI-2A-02-03-0C-00

I cannot get it to burn to DVD successfully. I have downloaded the patches. Does anyone know what is wrong here or who i can talk to to fix it?

3) I cannot figure out how to uninstall the software so that I can re-install it. When I try to do through the Control Panel. I get an error message saying:

>SetUpDLL\SetupDll.cpp(439)
PaAPPP.Ulead Video 8
PVENDOR:Ulead Systems
PGUID 4FIDA-BF-3614-48A1-9970-9E90F646789E
$7.1.100.1248
@Windows XP Service Pack 2 (2600) Bt_Ither 0.64

Then another message box comes up from the InstallSheild Wizard saying:

Setup has experienced an error.

Please do the following:
Close any running programs
Empty your temporary folder
Check your internet connection (Internet Based Set-ups)

The try to run the Setup again.

Error code -5001

What is wrong here?

Thanks-you in advance.

On point number one. That procedure for deleting library files has been changed in VS9. Now it doesn't give you the option to delete the source files unless you hold down the "Shift" key.

On point number two I would recommend strongly to read the "Recommended Procedure" at the top of this forum. Although VS says you can go straight to burning a DVD it has been found that this is not always the case. It is better to go to Share then Create Video File. Output a DVD compliant MPEG2 file, then clear the timeline. Start a new project and go directly to Share, then into the DVD burning module, add the file you just made and try to burn.

On the uninstall problems I'm sorry I can't help there although it sounds like something has become corrupted in the uninstall files.

Re the abortive burns, in addition to what Lance has said, have you tried producing an image (ISO) or Video folder (Video_TS) instead of trying to burn, and then either burn that ISO or Video_TS using VS8, or in a third party program such as Nero? That at least might tell us something.

As for a clean reinstall of the program, I found this worked for me:
1) Clean up C:\Windows\temp directory. Uninstall anything to do with VS 7/8. Clean up all files in C:\Documents and Settings\[UserName]\Local Settings\Temp folder. Uninstall VideoStudio 8 from control panel Add/Remove programs.

2) Delete folder {4F1DA6BF-3614-48A1-9970-9E90F646789E} in C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information (Please set "Show hidden files and folders." in folder option in OS)

3) Delete the folder "Ulead VideoStudio 8.0" folder in C:\program files\ulead system

4) Run Regedit from Start/Run in Windows task bar

5) Delete folder {4F1DA6BF-3614-48A1-9970-9E90F646789E} in
KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\

6) Then reinstall VS8 and any patches.

Good luck!
