Email problem within PsP

Post by Cvike »

Has anyone had problems trying to send out an email from within PsP? I can add another account in outlook but when the new message form pops up it doesn't have a From: line. I can send out the new message but the person I send them to never gets them

Welcome to the forum -- and thank you for raising this.

While aware of the File > E-mail menu item, I have never used it, not even to test. But doing so now, I certainly see what you mean. The form which is opened is clearly an MS Outlook one, and in my case a 2021 version, though I am not sure if this is the default or because I have Office 2021 installed.

The missing "From" line is also mysterious. I happen to have an Outlook address separate from my others, and I would imagine this is what would be used, if it is not using 'contactcorelwebboard@corel.com'.

I tried sending a couple of emails. The first I addressed to myself using two of my normal email addresses (gmail and hotmail). Neither has come through. I sent another addressed to myself using a courtesy corel.com address I have, as well as to contactcorelwebboard@corel.com, just in case. Again, neither came through. I have checked in my normal email browser (which is under gmail) and in my Outlook folders for both my personal and contactcorelwebboard addresses, but as I say, nothing is there.

I'll discuss this with Kathy, and we'll raise it with Corel. It should either work or be removed from the program.

It worked well with my email client, Thunderbird. Interesting that PSP used Thunderbird that is not my default client in Windows 10. I never bothered changing the default from the Microsoft mail client that came with the Windows 10 installation, yet PSP found Thunderbird.
In Thunderbird I get a standard email form with the "from" box a drop down which lists all the accounts defined in the program. The picture is an attachment. Mailed to another of my accounts, no problem.

Also working for me from within PSP2022. When I select email it opens Outlook 2019 on my system.

FWIW, here's an older thread that discusses this same issue. It may or may not help you.

Strange that mine still refuses to work despite automatically opening Outlook 2021. That is also set as the default app for email accounts.

Is it set to default for MAPI protocol or EAPI?

I was sure I had answered this, but the response has disappeared! Anyway, I was sure it was set to MAPI since MAPI had been devised by MS to work specifically with Outlook. But on looking at my settings, I find that in fact it is set to IMAP. I confess, though, that I hadn't known the two were different, so when setting up Outlook I would have jumped at something I recognized and that was IMAP. So now I have to work out either how to change the settings to MAPI or close my outlook account and re-establish it, this time using MAPI settings. And that may be difficult since this outlook address is my basic MS account for Win 11...

iMAP is how outlook connects to your email account. MAPI is how programs send email to outlook. I think that's the protocol outlook made. So IMAP for your email account is correct, MAPI for PSP sending attachments and start a new email message in Outlook.

EDIT: Supposedly you might be able to turn on MAPI for your mailbox as well, I didn't realize this. Thought it was just something built into Outlook though I don't use outlook so what do I know?

I've been playing around with this for a couple of hours now, with no success. But the strangest thing has just happened: two of the test images I sent via Outlook yesterday have arrived 15 minutes ago, my computer tells me. Both are the ones addressed to me me at my gmail address. One of them was also addressed to my hotmail address but that copy has not arrived (yet!!) I wonder if all my prodding and poking around in settings has released something...?

In any case, I think I will not pursue this any further since I have never used that email function within PSP and have no intention of doing so...
