MF 2 and 4 problems

System: P4 2,8gb, 1gb RAM, XP Prof, 140GB free on HD. Samsung DVD R/RW drive.

1. In Movie Factory 2, I open a project, select AVI file from HD and everything is OK but it will ONLY burn if I insert a RW disk. A DVD-R gives me an error: No disk. Apparently, MF assumes that I want to create an EDITABLE disk- how do I get it to recognize/write to a -R etc disk?

2. I can't get MF 4 to work at all (downloaded latest patch today).
I can't find the equivalent of the proyect in MF 2 and neither the option to export selected clips (p.24 of the User Guide); there is no such icon on the Add/Edit Media page on my screen.
I haven't had any luck in trying to select part of a video file -
none of the operations from the manual seem to work as described. I have already spent an awful lot of time trying to get MF 4 to work and regret bitterly having paid for it!

I don't believe this is a conflict with other video software but if anybody out there thinks it is, I can start removing NERO, Zweistein, Video Vault (another dog) etc.

re my previous msg: I have found the file conversion AVI to MWV; once the file appears in the Add/Edit window, you right-click on its image and presto.....
