Copy bits from previous projects

Post by Screwball »

Over twenty or more years I have made DVD's of various holidays, now I want to collate 'best bits' for a new DVD project. When I view the disks files they are Video_TS files which VS19 doesn't recognise when I try to import the files. So in a nutshell, how do I cut selected clips from the existing DVD's. I have not retained the old VSP files.

In VS, under the Capture tab, use "Import from disc or external drive".

You could also copy the Video_TS file or files to your computer and rename the extension with .mpg (since they are mpeg-2). Then cut and edit the new files as you want in VS, which should have no trouble recognizing and playing them.

Thankyou, that was successful - HOWEVER!! I spent three plus hours editing the first disk, clicked on a transition to change it and VS just disappeared. In preferences I always have set the saving for every 10 mins but all I have is the original pre-edited file not the re-named project!!! SOOOOoo p*****d off! Is there any way to discover if/where the edited project is hiding itself??

Have you checked in your working folder -- see Preferences > General > Working Folder? By default it is set to C:\Users\[YourName]\Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\My Projects. You may find some remnant -- and earlier save -- stored there. You might also want to shorten the auto-save function or manually save before any important editing step.

Many times when VS crashes, the next time you start VS, it asks if you "Do you want to recover the previous project file?" Was this the case?

Suggestions:
  1. Use File Explorer to search your storage disks for recent files named "*.vsp".
  2. Right Click on the VS icon on your toolbar and look at the list of recent VSPs opened by VS.
  3. Open VS and look at the list of recent VSPs.

VS crashes too frequently to leave the Automatic save interval at the default of 10 minutes. Personally, I manually save after every change (CTRL S).
