Searching plugin to convert photo to painting
Recently I saw a beautiful painting converted from a photo (see attached snapshot).
Unfortunately I had no chance to find out which plugin was used.
Does anyone here have an idea which plugin was used/can do such conversions?
Thank you
Peter

Re: Searching plugin to convert photo to painting
No idea what was used. PSP had a plugin called pic-to-painting though I doubt it was used here. The newest versions of PSP have this feature built in, no longer a plugin.
In both cases the technique is called style transfer and uses Ai/ML to do the job.
Another option isn't a plugin but a program.
Painter and Painter express have an auto painting mode that attempt to recreate your image by randomly sampling colors and making brush strokes.

I just downloaded the GMIC QT plugin and put it into my PSP 2019 64bit Plugins folder, opened PSP and a jpg image and clicked on the GMIC plugin that shows in my Plugins dropdown menu. I got a message box saying "CreateProcess failed. The handle is invalid." What am I doing wrong?

Re: Searching plugin to convert photo to painting
Hi Joe,
Did you what I did:
https://gmic.eu/download.html
I go to G'MIC-Qt plugin for Photoshop / Affinity Photo / PaintShop Pro ...
-> Windows -> .zip archive -> I click on "Stable"
I get access to:
https://github.com/0xC0000054/gmic-8bf/releases
I loaded the GmicPlugin_x64.zip for my computer (64bit, Windows 10).
I copied the zip file to my PSP Plugin Folder (I have a separate Plugin folder where I put all my plugins).
I unzipped "here".
It installs some files in the Plugin folders (GmicPlugin.8bf, etc.) and creates a Gmic folder in the Plugins folder.
In Preferences / Files Locations / Plugins, I add my Plugins folder (I don't give the G'Mic sub-folder path, PSP will find it).
I open a JPG image and click on G'MIC-Qt.. plugin.
G'MIC opens in a separate window.
I select and apply a filter.

Re: Searching plugin to convert photo to painting
Hi,
I came across this thread recently and just registered on the forum so I could ask a question. I am interested in GMIC plugin mentioned here to add more filter effects to my photos using PSP 2022. I just installed the GMIC plugin and found 1 filter that I would like to write a script for so I can batch process many photos at once. I recorded the script which just calls the GMIC plugin, then I select the filter, apply the filter, select OK and then I end and save the recording of the script. It starts to run then ends with an error message which I captured in a screenshot (but haven''t learned about attaching images here, yet). If I run the script within PSP 2022 the script ends with the error message which says it can't find a file and I acknowledge that by clicking OK and that is the end of it. If I try to use the script in a batch process, I have to click OK to acknowledge the error generated by failure to find a file for each image in the batch and then at the end I get a final report screen that asks me to save log or OK. Clicking on any active button has no effect, It's locked. I had to use task manager to close PSP 2022.
I'd appreciate any help or advice on what files the GMIC filter is looking for and can't find and how to write a usable script for what I am trying to accomplish. And finally, how to post the screenshot here so you can see the name of the file GIMC plugin is unable to find. Thanks, Stan

Re: Searching plugin to convert photo to painting
Welcome to the forum.
To attach a file, first click on the 'Full Editor & Preview' button immediately below the space where you are writing your post. A new page will appear with a larger space topped by an array of icons. But below the space (and below the Save draft, Preview and Submit buttons), you should see two tabs: Options and Attachments. Click the latter.
A new button will appear: Add files. Click that and it will take you to File Explorer and allow you to find the file/photo you want to attach. Click that to select it. Now, below the Add files button, there should be a window with the name of the file -- in my case tiki.jpg. Over to the right of it are two buttons: Place inline, and Delete file. Needless to say, only pick the latter if you picked the wrong file and want to replace it.
If you click the Place inline button, then up in the response window there should appear something like [ attachment=0]image.jpg[/attachment] but without the space after the first square bracket. I did that so you could see what is written. Otherwise, the selected image shows there too. If you then highlight those words (without the space), including the far left and far right brackets, and Ctrl+C copy it, you will be able to place (Ctrl+V) the image anywhere you want in your response.
If you don't click it, then when you finish your response and click submit, then the image will appear at the bottom at the end of the response.

Hi, Ken
Very good explanation on how to add an image in this forum.
I suggest you create a "sticky" message on top containing that explanation.

Re: Searching plugin to convert photo to painting
Thank you for the info on posting images to the forum.
Here are two screenshots that show the error messages I get when trying to run my script written to apply GMIC filters in a batch process. The larger of the two is the first one encountered for each file in the batch process and the smaller is the error message the end of the process which shows all files in the batch failed and which locks up PSP 2022.
Thanks,
Stan

Re: Searching plugin to convert photo to painting
I was away yesterday, way out of town attending a funeral. When I returned I was somewhat surprised to find this minor ruckus over my posting of steps to use Attachments. While I appreciate Jean-Luc's kind words, I confess I didn't want to make yet another sticky for it. There are already IMHO far too many stickies in this forum already and you have to go down quite some way before hitting new posts. In fact I have been thinking in recent weeks about suggesting to Kathy_9 and lata that we find a way of pruning some of the stickies.
While of course meant to assist people having difficulties with Attachments, I'm not sure that we get all that many requests for such assistance. I had in any case saved my reply, and it could be trotted out again as necessary to help users asking for assistance. As has been pointed out already, similar instructions to mine had already been posted in our forum though perhaps got a bit lost. I thought posting my response to individual requests might be more effective. In any case, at least now such individual requests can be met by a cross reference to the sticky which Kathy has kindly amended.

Re: Searching plugin to convert photo to painting
@shope - As far as the G'Mic plugin is concerned it won't run in a script in silent mode. If you turn on Interactive Execution the plugin opens and you have to manually accept the change/filter of course. Same with batch Process, when you add the script to the list of commands make sure to deselect the "Silent Mode" checkbox at the bottom of the script picker.
I haven't tested it personally, but it might be possible to use the CLI version of G'Mic to do the same thing in a batch. But I would have to run some tests. And it's not nearly as easy as using the plugin.

Re: Searching plugin to convert photo to painting
Update - So I made a quick script that lets me paste in a command from the gmic plugin and it loads the effect as a layer above the currently selected layer, the end result of the batch process is a merged file with the effect applied. It's a little slow, but not bad. It also doesn't have all of the exact same filter names so can't guarantee it'll work with everything. Also I don't have good instructions for its use yet. Though it should be relatively simple once I get to sleep and can think clearly. It's almost 4am.
So, if my previous suggestion of just letting it run interactively doesn't work, I'll have an alternate option you can try.
