PSP doesn't work in high resolutions

Post by Harry_James_Books »

1st, ridiculous that I can't just paste an image to describe my issue but need an URL - how stupid is that in 2022 ?

2nd, my issue is that I bought a new monitor which means I can now run in 3200 x 1800

When I run in 3200 x 1800 (or any other resolution higher than 1080) the effects and other tools don't display properly.

Instead of the proper pop-up box, all that displays is a "cropped" version of the popup, with only part of the adjustment (sometimes none) available.
The effect can be worked (ie, I can use about 50% of the contrast slider) so it isn't a functional issue but - I assume - a lack of testing the programme at higher resolutions.

If anybody has any workaround to this, I'd love to hear them because the programme is basically unusable as it stands.

PS: I run 64Bit, but even re-istalled 64Bit and 32bit and tried again, with the same result.

Firstly have you tried your monitors setting. Then Windows OS settings. It could be an operating system fault.

Reason for not allowing image pasting in this forum is that images take up a lot of space for instance 100 images could be 1gb. So you see with the amount of traffic they have to limit what they have on their servers.

Do you have any Zoom applied in Windows? I have a 32 inch 4K monitor (3840 x 2160) and have a 150% zoom applied. Otherwise, most programs appear too small, even full screen. With PSP, even with the zoom applied, the menus, tools, text etc still appear too small and make the program unusable.

So with PSP closed, I right click on the PSP desktop icon and choose the Compatibility tab. Down towards the bottom there's a button "Change High DPI Settings". I click on that and on the new tab which appears, I tick the box down near the bottom I click the button beside "Override high DPI scaling behaviour." And below that I choose "System" in the box for "Scaling performed by:"... Then OK out.

I realize my problem is possibly the opposite of yours. However, you might want to try playing around with this to see if it changes your layout appearance.

My 28 inch monitor is 2560 x 1440 and I always set the scale to the default 100% in Windows Display, and I have no issues with any of the displays not showing correctly in PSP 2021 or older versions.
Under the User Interface Menu I have all set on the Small setting except for the Font, which I set to Large.

Changing from the default 100% in the Windows Display settings can cause issues with dialog boxes.

No, it's not an OS fault.

It's lazy Corel programmer's fault (with all do respect)

All other programs (even free ones) run perfectly fine in "150% scale" OS Mode... Except for PSP

If the free programs use the default Windows control systems or specialized frameworks like QT these are most likely handled for them and not something the programmer made themselves. PSP is built on custom UI frameworks. And Corel only gives so much money and time to the development of PSP. So I wouldn't blame the programmers either, rather what they have to work with.

Would anyone have an idea how to fix this issue? Using PSP2023 on a 2K display so 2560x1440, as previous user the effects windows etc don't display properly. Only way seems to be lowering the screen resolution to 1920x1080 before launching the program.

It's really a shame of Corel. Versions back claimed that works with HR monitors. :(

Well I did some testing and PSP2023 works fine on my home PC, which also runs 2560x1440 resolution. No idea what the difference is! I've tried updating to the latest graphics card driver, tried to match the scaling settings and on my work PC it just won't display the boxes correctly.

I have reverted to PSP2022 on my work PC as this works fine at the higher resolution.
