Two Questions

Two questions:

1. Why are most of my Setup menu-bar options grayed out in the Video Capture version 7.0 module? All but the last 2 are grayed out. More specifically, how do I "un-gray" the MPEG setup option if it's grayed out?

2. Where do I setup the format of the output file (Mpeg 1, mpeg 2, avi, 4:3, 16:9) from the video capture?

I am using Media Pro 7.0, running on Windows XP. I am connecting to a Sony HDR-HC1 HD camcorder via IEEE 1394 cable.

You need to set up the Device Control and the Capture Plug-in. This is covered in the Tutorial on page 26 of the manual. Various options are enabled or disabled (i.e. grayed out) based upon which Capture Plug-in you set up. If you haven't selected one, they're all greyed out.

The Device Control is what detects the camera and sends commands to it, allowing Video Capture to start, stop, rewind, play, etc. the camera. I use the MS 1394 which works fine for my Canon GL2. I think it works pretty well for most Firewire interfaces, but if not, try one of the others.

The format of the captured files depends upon the Capture Plug-in. I assume the Ulead DSW MPEG capture plug-in will capture MPEG, but I never capture directly to MPEG.

Unless you have a really good reason for capturing to MPEG, you should use a less compressed format, like DV-format AVI files. The Ulead DirectShow Capture plug-in is what I use to create Type-1 DV AVI files. I then edit these with the Video Editor and produce MPEG compress files as the final result.

I'd definitely recommend spending some time with the manual. MSP is complex enough that just winging it will probably be very frustrating, and you'll benefit from the information in the manual.
