No sound in video after importing clips in vs ultimate 2022 running on windows 7

Post by agal1057 »

Hello, I would appreciate if someone could help me, I recently updated to VS ultimate 2022 I am running it on windows 7 and when I import my new porject with avi files, the project imports without sound. There is no problem with the original files. I have been playing with the settings and I can't get it to work. If anyone knows how to resolve this I would appreciate your help. Thank you

You talk about your new project files being avi, but then mention the original files as though they might be something else. If so, could you let us know what they are. It would also be very useful if you could left click on one of the avi files in the VS timeline and copy all its Properties here or take a screenshot of the Properties box and post it as an attachment. That way we'll have a better idea of what you are dealing with. Apart from true uncompressed avi (which are huge at over 60 GB per hour of video), avi is really a wrapper format which can cover a huge range of video types.

I am specifically interested to know about the audio properties of the avi. If they are surround sound Dolby, then Corel dropped support for that for Win 10 users, and even for dual channel Dolby for Win 7 users such as yourself.

If that turns out to be the case, then all I can suggest is that you run the video through a converter program with the audio set to (L)PCM standard audio.

FWIW Corel's VideoStudio 2022 Ultimate System Requirements list supported operating systems as Windows11, Windows 10, Windows 8, 64 bit only. Hence if you're running VS2022 on Win7 then you can expect some issues that may not occur on supported OSs.

The most straightforward approach to this issue would be to transcode your video files or to export the sound into a WAV file and then add it back into VS.

Windows 7 and Video Studio latest versions do not support Digital Dolby Audio.
If your video are DV.Avi or MTS then those audio streams will most likely be Digital Dolby, the audio will be silent.

Using Windows 10, Digital Dolby is limited to Stereo, Surround Sound not being available. ( strange decision on Corels part)
If your video is using Digital Dolby Surround Sound then using with Video Studio will play as Stereo.

However Corel have introduced Surround Sound when using PCM 5.1 audio streams
I noticed this for AVI, Mpeg2, AVC/H.264 video streams

If you wish to retain Surround Sound, I wonder if we can convert DV.Avi Digital Dolby 5.1 to use PCM 5.1?????

Using a program called Media Info will read the video properties in full.

I returned to Corel my VS2022 because of those audio issues. It is a shame for Corel, that the older versions support all those video formats, while the new ones do not. So I continue to use the VS2018.
