I just installed VSU 2022 and when I try to import my first project I get a there is no valid contact message, the video file does open and play outside of VS, can someone help me out with this problem.

A Video Studio project (xxx.vsp) is not a video file. It is a small text file containing links to where the video in the project is located and what editing has been done to it. So if as you say "the video file does open and play outside of VS" then what you have is definitely not a Video Studio project but a video for which VS either does not have a valid codec to play it or some defect which will not allow VS to accept it.
