Cutting project with multiple tracks
Hello,
I am having a specific issue with which I have received zero help from Corel Support.
I have a number of VS Ultimate 2021 projects that have multiple video tracks as well as an audio track. When I click "Cut/Clip" on the whole project, sometimes it cuts all the tracks just fine and sometimes it doesn't cut the audio track. When Ripple Editing is enabled, this means that you can easily delete the entire audio track, if you're not careful. I have to go and cut the audio track separately. This is super annoying and if you're not paying attention, you can easily mess up the whole project.
There is no rhyme or reason to when it works and when it doesn't. Sometimes it will cut all of the tracks fine multiple times in a row and then suddenly not do it.
I emailed support. The first response I got was to use the "Cleanup Tool." I did. No success. Then I installed the software on a brand new computer (the old one had an Intel CPU and Windows 10, this one has an AMD CPU and Windows 11) and the behavior is the same. I told support and they said to use the cleanup tool again. Then they said you can only cut audio or video separately, but not together. I am fairly certain that whoever is answering the support requests is either reading from the manual or simply doesn't know/care.
I am hoping for a resolution. Thanks for any and all help!

Re: Cutting project with multiple tracks
Welcome to the forum.
Have you checked to see if ripple editing is enabled on all tracks, or only some, when you want to cut all the tracks at once; or indeed when you don't want it to do that. In that case, of course, you would need to manually disable ripple editing on the tracks you don't want cut...

Re: Cutting project with multiple tracks
In my experience with VS2021, you can only use the split clip function to either cut all tracks where the scrubber is located, or to cut just one selected track. If you decide to cut all tracks, then every track will be cut whether ripple editing is enabled or not, and whether tracks are disabled or not.mgmax666 wrote: There is no rhyme or reason to when it works and when it doesn't.

Re: Cutting project with multiple tracks
In Project mode split / cut will apply to all tracks
In Clip mode only the selected track will be split / cut
Take care when using 2022 as the new scrubber can mess things up.

Re: Cutting project with multiple tracks
Yes, this is my understanding. But it doesn't work approximately 50% of the time. On two separate computers.
The same project. The first image is where it only decided to cut the video tracks but not the audio. The second image is where it cut everything fine. There is no pattern to when it works and when it doesn't.

I notice that the first image is in Project mode and the second in Clip mode...

Re: Cutting project with multiple tracks
The selection automatically changes to "Clip" mode after I click Cut in Project mode. So the actual cutting takes place in Project mode. See in the photo how it cut all the tracks aside from the audio. That is the issue.

Re: Cutting project with multiple tracks
During repeated testing, I noticed that occasionally all tracks except the voice track and/or the music tracks are reliably cut (see fol image). Although more often than not, all tracks are cut.mgmax666 wrote: The first image is where it only decided to cut the video tracks but not the audio.
Agreed there is no pattern, however, I had not encountered this bug before as I rarely cut all tracks in a single go. In any event, it certainly is buggy behaviour.mgmax666 wrote: The second image is where it cut everything fine. There is no pattern to when it works and when it doesn't.

Re: Cutting project with multiple tracks
You must be in the 'Project' mode to cut all tracks at once, then when the 'split clip' action is selected, the cut ripples down the tracks and the last track cut is put in the 'clip' mode.Ken Berry wrote: I notice that the first image is in Project mode and the second in Clip mode...

I am somewhat relieved that I am not insane and you were able to reproduce the problem. Thank you for taking the time to do this.tletter wrote: ↑Fri Apr 15, 2022 3:10 amDuring repeated testing, I noticed that occasionally all tracks except the voice track and/or the music tracks are reliably cut (see fol image). I have not been able to get any help from support, besides repeatedly telling me to use the cleanup tool. Which I had done as well as installing it on another computer. This is just one of a gazillion bugs that I've run into recently. I had used version 2018 but upgraded to 2021 because I thought the issue of it randomly crashing when editing in Audio mode was fixed, but it is not. Additionally, it changes the View style at random, sometimes when you want to go to the end of a track, it only goes to a few frames before the end, etc. I am hoping to be able to afford better software soon as this behavior is ridiculous.

It sounds like a 1st level support response.mgmax666 wrote: I have not been able to get any help from support, besides repeatedly telling me to use the cleanup tool.
While I find rendering faster in VS2021, I find VS2018 a better editing experience. That said no matter which version of VS that I'm using, I save after every edit as a crash is only an editing action away.mgmax666 wrote: I had used version 2018 but upgraded to 2021 because I thought the issue of it randomly crashing when editing in Audio mode was fixed, but it is not.
There is a free version of DaVinci Resolve which is a quite capable NLE that you may find addresses your concerns, although it has a steep learning curve.mgmax666 wrote: I am hoping to be able to afford better software soon as this behavior is ridiculous.
