MP4 plays only sound no video in videostudio 2020

HI,
When I play MP4's from my dashcam, the ap will not show any video from my dashcam... I do get sound though.

These MP4's play fine on VLM, but not in the corel ap.

I have uninstalled the app and ran the cleaner ap... still no luck.

Here is the codec info from VLM: (on the file)

Any ideas on how to fix, or is this beyond the capabilities of VideoStudio 2020?

Welcome to the forum.

When you say VLM I assume you mean VLC Player. That one comes with the HEVC codec built into it, which is why your video plays on that player. However, Video Studio does not come with HEVC. You have to add it by buying the Microsoft HEVC Extension. However, it only costs about US$1.00: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/hevc- ... verviewtab .

If you google for it, there is even a way that Win 10 owners can obtain it free, and I see that you have Win 10: look at https://www.howtogeek.com/680690/how-to ... 265-video/. I have Win 11 and that free route has been blocked off to us.

Once you have the HEVC Extension downloaded and installed (which is quick and easy), I would see if your dashcam footage will now play in VS. It should, though if it doesn't I would reboot your computer and try again.

I have VLM installed... Shouldn't that have installed the codec? I can watch the video on VLM.

It worked. the free copy is no longer available... but $1 is hardly anything to complain about. Will be interesting if Tech support answers me back at all this week and if they have a solution.

Ran into this pain myself at some point too. Buying the codec seemed like the easiest way out, it's confusing to most of us when, VLC or other apps just work but Studio does not.
Also the Major geeks website has a "codec pack" which has been a help sometimes too when exploring using unusual formats.

Major Geeks... Wow... That goes way back. I used to feel it was a safe site... but found some questionable downloads there. Are they still kosher?

You still have to tick the box that says "don't install other guff" on the downloads, but they seem to still do great work.

The reason why VLC plays HEVC content is because it is self-contained and maintains all its codecs, VSP relies on codecs installed on your system.

Thanks. Too bad support sucks so bad. I have not had any responses to my question yet... They have completely ignored me and now want to know how they have done.
Pathetic. I am going to seriously search for a different software to use. I would consider firing the support center.
