VideoStudio always auto repeats even when option is not selected

Post by Neil-G »

I have been happily using Movie Factory for many years until Windows 10 decided not to play ball.
I am now using VideoStudio 11, and am quite happy with it apart from one annoyance. Whenever I make DVD folders with a single title and no menu I have the option to auto repeat unselected. Unfortunately, the clip always repeats on playback which is very annoying.
Movie Factory never had this problem, and at the end of the title the playback stopped.
Please can anyone help with this problem?

Hi Neil -G and welcome to the forum,
Please confirm exactly what version you are using, there is no Video Studio 11, the latest version is VS 2022

I use Pot Player 64 and VLC Media Player. Both do the repeat thing unfortunately, and neither have loop playback selected. Thank you Trevor for your reply.

Once we deselect Auto repeat we have two options, Back to Menu or Play next.....
As you only have one Title the choice would make no difference, even so have you tried both options?

Yes thanks Trevor, I tried both with the same auto repeat result.
I downloaded the trial version of VideoStudio 2022, and that works perfectly by stopping at the end of first playback. Does this prove that the problem is not down to a particular version of Direct X?

Robert asked earlier which version of Video Studio you are using.
There was no version created by Corel as VS 11, the nearest reference would be to CVS 2018.
Unless its the earlier Ulead version VS 11, I doubt that.
Go to Help - About what version do you have.

Whatever version, have you tried re-installing.

Not sure about Direct X, but as 2022 works ok I guess DX is ok.

Sorry Robert I have only just seen your posting. Would you believe it is the Ulead version 11?
I will try re-installing.
I might end up buying 2022, but as I have Vegas and Premiere Pro I am not looking for new video editing software. I just want good and simple authoring software that is easier and quicker than Encore. I have always liked Ulead software, especially Movie Factory. I like VideoStudio for it's blu-ray capabilities.

Wow…. If my memory serves me UVS11 was the last for Ulead as I Corel took over around about that time. Maybe 15 years ago?
I also think there were some burner issues that started with VS 11, although it is one of the programs that I never installed. VS 12 aka X2 followed, Corel provided “Corel DVD Factory Pro 2010” as a replacement to the burner module with disastrous results, eventually providing “Movie Factory SE” with X3 as a free plugin to cover the problems, then reverted back to the tried and trusted burner software we see now, I must say not a lot has changed since then.

By the way did you have to purchase the Bluray plugin or was Bluray working with VS 11
You may have to purchase that for 2022.
There is also My DVD a separate authoring tool to burn DVD and Bluray, has had a makeover with 2022, not sure if that is provided with the trial, I assume you will give VS a run should you decide to purchase

I get a kick out of getting old progs to work on new operating systems!
I can't remember if I had to purchase the Bluray plugin as it was on my old desktop. I have just noticed that Bluray is not one of the options on the VS11 installed on the Z800 workstation, it has been a while since I last authored a Bluray.
I am tempted to buy 2022, but I would like to find out a few things:-
1. Can it work with Plural Eyes ie. can it export the timeline to xml?
2. Why is MPEG audio no longer an option when burning a DVD?
3. Do you still have to buy the Bluray plugin, or is supplied with the full versions of Pro and Ultimate?
4. I have read that the quality of rendered exports is not good, is that true?
I really like how easy it is to enter multicam mode compared to Premiere Pro so if there are favourable answers to my questions I will buy either Ultimate or Pro.

I forgot to say that I always use ImgBurn for burning to disc, I only use VS and Movie Factory for creating folders.

1 / Plural Eyes, I do not really understand what that is! but no cannot export timelines to xml.
2 / A long time ago Mpeg Audio was dropped in favour of Digital Dolby, that included Stereo and Surround Sound.
About 3 / 4 years ago Digital Dolby was no longer supported when using Video Studio on Windows 7
Video Studio on Windows 10 however continued to support only Digital Dolby Stereo, Surround Sound 5.1 has been removed from Video Studio.
For 2022 there seems to have been an update where PCM 5.1 Channels are now available along with Digital Dolby Stereo and LPCM Audio.
3 / You have to purchase the Bluray plugin as a one off purchase, future versions can use the same plugin, for UK prices £6.49.
A process from Help called Restore Purchases should update the next VS version
4 / Render quality relies on many factors, you should convert the project to Mpeg2 using suitable settings trying to retain the same or similar settings as the original videos. (so if originals are progressive use Progressive aka Frame Based for mpeg2 do not use interlacing)
We can play this video to check quality, then using the Mpeg2 to create Folder / ISO disc Image avoids any further conversion, No Convert Title, the burning process starting with Create Menu.
Now we can play the ISO to check quality before committing to ImgBurn.

Your best option is to give the 2022 trial a run
Take care that project files opened with 2022 can no longer be opened in any other older program
So make a copy of your VS 11 vsp’s to use in the trial.

Thanks Trevor for your useful info and help.
I've been trying VS 2022, and for the most part am very pleased with it. The only problem I've come across is that when scrubbing an mp4 clip in Single Clip Trim the whole prog freezes, and then after a short while vanishes the SCT window. The SCT works on other formats like AVI, MPEG 2 etc., but not with mp4 or m4v. I don't think it has anything to do with lack of memory as I have 72gb of it! Have you come across this problem at all?

I have to say that I do not use SCT but prefer to use the controls immediately below the preview screen as those also provide the scissors or keyboard S (Split Clip)
The downside is not being able to expand the view unless I insert the clip to the timelines.
I do not think using SCT will be causing the problem, more likely to be the type of MP4
I did try SCT using various MP4 clips with no problems scrubbing or using the Mark-In / Out F3 – F4 options.

We do know that video using a variable frame rate do cause problems for Video Studio, at least for some users, two of my samples were HEVC variable frame rate MP4, no crashes
