Video Studio 2020 Crashes While Burning

Post by bc55 »

I was trying to burn a project to a disc image file. The project contains videos (mainly m2ts files from a camcorder, but also 1 mov file and 2 MP4 files from an Iphone), as well as pictures (jpg). After about a minute after I initiated burning, the system shuts down. I've tried this 3 times and all 3 times it has crashed between 45 seconds and 2 minutes into the burn project. I did notice that when I load the project file, it seems to get stuck for a few seconds on the MOV file before continuing to load the remainder of the file.

Hi bc55
First your profile shows you using X8, can you update that to show the latest version, cheers

Are you trying to burn a DVD or Bluray disc, yes I realise you are first creating a disc image?
Assuming you are burning Bluray………..
You should change your workflow by rendering the project to a compliant M2t file then use that file to burn the disc.
The properties of your m2ts recordings may be suitable, if so the best option
Right click your m2ts file, choose properties what are they?
From share choose same as first clip ( if that is one of your m2ts files) otherwise you may need to use Same as project settings.
Does that render complete without error.

If so, start a new project setting the properties to match the M2ts
Share Disc Bluray – adding the video top left for Add Media Add Video Files

It would be interesting to know what the properties of the mov clip and mp4 clips are. I see the latter are from a smartphone. Quite a few relatively recent smartphones produce video with a variable framerate. Successive versions of VideoStudio have difficulty with that. So if such video is very close to the start of your project, that could be why the disk image process aborts so early. Equally, if the mov clip is near the beginning, the fickle finger of fate could be pointing at that clip...

You might in fact want to think about using a video converter program like the freeware Handbrake to convert both the mov clip and the two mp4 clips to a format with properties like the m2ts video. That should not take too much time and will at least ensure that when creating the disk image that you have much the same sort of video throughout the project.

My apologies for not updating my profile. I now show Video Studio 2020.

I downloaded Handbrake and converted the MOV and MP4 files to m2ts and replaced the 3 files in my project. When I went to burn them, the project bombed at about the same time as before - around 1:40 (3%).
I then deleted all three of the files from my project and tried once again to burn the project to an ISO file. Same result - a shutdown of the program at the 1:40 mark. So....I'm guessing these 3 files are not the problem.

OK. There are a couple of alternatives you could try. You should have a program called MyDVD under Corel VideoStudio 2020 in the Win 10 menu. Open that and you can build the project using the same videos. And looking at the top line of menus in MyDVD you will see a button second from the end on the right saying "Save Project as an ISO Image". If you are burning a BluRay disc, you would need to have bought the BluRay module for VS before you could use that. It costs around US$10.

You could also download the freeware burning program ImgBurn which can also be used for the same purpose. Or there are a number of commercial programs like Nero or Ashampoo Burning Studio which can also do the job.

Can you say if you are trying to burn a standard DVD or a Bluray DVD??

As mentioned earlier you should open your project in the main timelines to render the project to a single video file.
If that process fails in the same position then there is something within the project that is causing a problem.
If you are intending to burn a DVD then render the project to Mpeg2, if burning a Bluray then render to AVCHD / m2t, in both cases using the appropriate settings to create a compliant video file.

Once created you should be able to burn that new video file to a disc using Video Studio, MyDVD or other software. Only Video Studio will burn a VSP project file.

My responses:
To Ken - when I drill down on Corel Video Studio 2020 in the menu, only two files appear: Corel Video Studio 2020 and Corel Fast Flick 2020. No My DVD. I did have a MyDVD file under the X8 version, but not 2020.

To lata: My goal is to burn the project to a standard DVD. I saved the project as an MPEG-2 file, then brought that file up and tried to burn it as an ISO image. Unfortunately, as with my other attempts, it bombed out at about 1:40 in the process.

Do you have the Ultimate version? I suspect that MyDVD only comes with that. Have you uninstalled the X8 version?

When you say you saved the project as an mpeg-2, does that mean you actually used Share to create the mpeg-2 before ever opening the burning module? If so, then the fact that you cannot use that new video in the burning module suggests there is something wrong with the burning module. I suggest you think about downloading the freeware ImgBurn program is mentioned above. You can find it at https://www.imgburn.com/

Do you use a menu, if so do you edit that to add Backgrounds or sound files.
If you deselect Create Menu from the first page, does that create the Iso.

I decided to redo my project and see what happens. So, I downloaded all the videos and pictures for the project in the order I wanted. I put in transitions between each video and picture. I did no editing to any video. I just decided to view the project to see what would happen. Around the 11-13 minute mark (the project is a little over an hour), the project stops and shuts down. I've played it 4 times, with the same result. (Different video clip each time). Could there be an issue with VS 2020? Could it be corrupted? This is becoming very frustrating.

It is too bad that you don't really answer the questions that are asked but instead go off and do something else.

I suggest you create the project with a few photos, images and transitions and render. If successful, add more to the project, render, etc until you get the failure. Since you state that the project always fails at the 11-13 minute mark, it seems that there could be a problem with at the video or photo or transitions settings at that point.

Like canuck, It does appear that there is a problem with the timeline content at 11 to 13 minutes
I doubt it will be the images, more likely to be one of the video clips, although I note you say “ different video each time”
So what is in the timeline at 11 to 13 minutes.

If you remove everything from 15 minutes to end, does the new 15 minute project still fail?
I guess that’s a simular approach as canuck slowly building the project.
