Is there any reason to upgrade yet?

Post by df »

Hey there, just checking in and wondering if it's time to upgrade yet from PSP 2019. Honestly I think X9 was the last upgrade I did that actually did something for me.
Does PSP have a dedicated sky replacement tool yet?
Does PSP have a dedicated layer alignment tool yet? (when you take a few shots of the same scene, layer them together, but they're slightly off).
Does PSP handle white balance any better?
Does it lose focus of where the center of the screen is while you zoom in and out?
Generally speaking is there anything groundbreaking they've done recently?

Thanks for any insight.
Dan

No sky replacement tool - background replacement of various kinds yes, but nothing specific to sky replacement.
No layer alignment, still the same separate tools to create one merged image from several.
I don't know what you mean by this, I'm unfamiliar with the issues others have with White Balance in PSP compared to other products. So I can't speak to that. If you are speaking specifically of the white balance adjustment itself that has not changed.
PSP has stuck with the "zoom to where your cursor is" method of zooming in and out. So if you want to limit your zooming to the exact center of the screen you will have to use the zoom shortcuts rather than the scroll wheel.
That is in the eye of the beholder. And what version of PSP you're upgrading from. For you from X9, probably not a great deal. For someone coming from 12.5 probably quite a lot.

Thanks for the objective opinion. I appreciate it.

The White Balance tool has always been subpar in my opinion, never actually getting anything white white. I can take jpegs or tiffs produced in PSP and whiten them in other programs even after I've spent quite a while in PSP trying to get white white. The Grey World tool that you told me about years ago does a better job than the White Balance tool but even that isn't perfect.

With the zooming I'm not thinking of keeping the center of the image at the center but rather when I place the pointer over an element of the image and zoom in the image does not stay centered on the element I'm hovering over. I have to zoom in, move the image, zoom in, move the image, etc... to wind up where I wanted to be when I placed the pointer over that element to begin with.
