Waveform on Preview Screen

Post by RobertOZ »

If a music track is placed in the timeline, the waveform displays on the preview screen, WHY, what is its purpose, has anyone worked out just what it is supposed to do, the Help manual, doesn't mention it.
Any adjustments still need to be made in the timeline

Sorry, Robert. Not sure what you mean. If I have an empty project screen in VS 2022, and start by inserting music into the music track. Yes, I get the audio waveform in the preview screen. But that's because nothing else is in the project as yet, so the music shows up in the preview screen. However, that is only if it is at the very beginning of a project with nothing else in the timelines. As soon as I insert video that takes precedence and shows up in the preview screen, with the audio waveform gone. Or do you get something different.

The waveform has not previously been an available feature of VS, If we place a video in the timeline and select the "V" under the preview screen it displays the video, if I select the "A" the audio waveform displays, my question is WHY, what's the purpose of seeing the waveform when it is completely static

Raised on Centercode, the wave form is squashed to the preview screen so a 1 hour clip shows the full wave form
Not much use unless we can zoom into the wave form for detail
besides the wave form on timelines for me looks as though painted with a wide brush with no real details, especially on the timelines

Seeing the waveform is a "must have" feature in compositing tools.
You can use to manually adjust the audio sync or place a scene change with the beat of the music.
Unfortunatelly VS has some serous issues if you try to use waveforms to accomplish such tasks.
Generally the waveform does not much with what you see etc. So you spent much more time for those tasks in Corel Video Studio unfortunately.
