NO AUDIO IN VS9

Post by daniel97 »

I'm no expert but not a total novice but I have no audio when viewing clips or projects. I can play all my MPEG clips in MWP with audio etc but VS9 doesn't play the audio side of my clipsat all. The patch doesn't install either!

VS9 will play it's own music clips but not mine.

I emailed the Tech support last week and they haven't replied - do I need additional VS9 downloads? as this is the self same problem with VS8.

Anyone help out here?

Thanks
Kevin

What type of files are you dealing with? What type of audio do they have? Which version of VS9 do you have (Full, Trial, other)?

hello

My files are movie clips that will play in any editing software but VS9, in fact, they never palyed in VS8 either.
There is nothing wrong with my PC as it is 6 months old and all my clips play in MWP including audio but ##### all audio plays in VS9 or VS8 meaning that there is a conflict of some sort or that VS9 is cack!

HELP!

Where did you get the clips :?: Does MWP = Windows Media Player, or something else :?:

What type of audio do they have? Which version of VS9 do you have (Full, Trial, other)?

NO AUDIO IN VS9

Post by daniel97 »

Hi
I have the VS9.1 with Dolby Digital Power Pack (If this is the "patch" it didn't like being installed!!) as downloaded from the UK Ulead site last week.
I have a Sony Camcorder that records directly to mini DVD's but VS9 doesn't seem to like them so I used Nero to encode the dvd files to MPEG so I now have 200 blooming Movie Clip files of our holiday I want to edit together.

The video is fine but no audio yet they will play in with audio in WMP.

The audio was recorded on to the DVD as 5.1 stereo.

My clips must be MPEG/MPG as VS9 doesn't recognise the clips as any other format but I can't work out why the audio doesn't play. All the settings seem fine as it plays VS9 "in built" music/tunes etc.

Maybe I need some more codecs? yet I have pretty much every codec under the sun?

I'm getting desperate now as this is getting rather annoying and I can't locate anyone else having the same trouble.

Strange or what!

I am guessing when you say you "encoded" using Nero that you mean you used Nero to transfer the files fom a finalised disc in the DVD tray of your computer to the hard drive. Possibly the reason you have no sound is that Nero has retained the Dolby 5:1 SURROUND sound.
VS8 with the Dolby plugin or VS9 (No need for the plugin) cannot handle 5:1 SURROUND sound. They can handle Dolby AC-3 STEREO sound.
If you installed the Dolby plugin for VS8 on a machine that ONLY has VS9...well I don't really know what that would do!
Anyway there are very few programs at the consumer level that are going to help you with 5:1 SURROUND sound.
If you want to use VS9 then put the finalised discs back in the DVD tray on the computer. Start VS9 and use the DVD/VR Import button on the Capture tab page. VS will downmix the sound to dolby AC-3 stereo and they should play ok and be fine for editing.

NO AUDIO IN VS9

Hello Ian

Thanks for the help, however, it didn't work - weird but the mini dvd's are only 1.3gb so they're not huge and the fact that I have a P4 3.2ghz with 1gb ram doesn't seem to make an ounce of difference.

I did do what you said and tried to import the dvd (one at a time) but VS9 went into NOT RESPONDING mode! - I've had this loads of times with VS and again it's getting right on my nerves!!!

The tech dept of Ulead aint replied to me and I'm getting frustrated now with this so I ask you if you know if I can import my dvd's in any other way or atleast encode/decode them with the audio intact - I know Nero can be a pain in the arse with encoding but this is madness - why should VS "hang" when importing such a small dvd - it wont even import a chapter without it "hanging"

URGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

No Audio

I also bought Video Studio 9 full product as I could not get movie factory 4 to work properly. I also have no sound. I use mini dvd from a sony camera. The dvd are formated in VR mode and recorded in stereo audio. I also get an error when selecting cells. Something like this "Failed to begin VIO playback instance in the import DVD preview module. Report ID 0x8004095a(2394)" I have used non Ulead products and they have all worked but as these were only 10 day trials and they cost more I thought this would be the programme to go for. Steve

Kevin, do you have the InCD feature of Nero installed? If you do then go to the Control Panel and uninstall. It has a habit of taking control of the DVD tray as soon as something is put in there and prevents VS from accessing the drive.

I'll try that Ian when I get home from work (I'm a work PC at the moment)- I do know Nero has a habbit of taking control and was totally useless in encoding certain formats for me, although when I did get VS9 to import from dvd it did know that I had mini discs in the tray but as stated - it just 'hung' and went into 'not responding' mode so I got fed up in the end and turned ito off!

I will try your idea though and thanks for your time in helping me.

Kevin the other thing you might want to check while you are at it is the firmware of your DVD burner and whether the burner itself supports 8cm DVDs. If the firmware does not have full support for the 8cm discs it may be applying a generic kind of read strategy that is failing.
I went through a lot of this last year so I am running from memory here. The one thing I found was that the problem, for me, never turned out to be VS. It was always some other conflict or hardware config that was stopping VS from doing its thing.
