Split screens in VS 2021
It's been a while since I used split screens - before the pandemic in fact. So in a current project I thought using one would be a nice touch. Except that the split screen item in the library tool bar, templates, split screen is now vacant (nothing there but a plus (add?) symbol). In prior versions there was a choice of several pre-defined, plus you could make your own (the tool in the timeline tool bar to do that).
I had not noticed the version in which those various pre-defined splits were withdrawn. But clicking on the plus + symbol in the split screen pane gets you to the store, which I infer means get something about split screens from there. But after my dismal experience with (not) getting a usable graphic pack from the store (prior topic post), I'm leaving that place alone.

David are you sure you are referring to VS2021, anyway Split Screen is still available in VS2021 & VS2022, and are functional

Just a thought
at the top of the Split Screen panel is a search option, is there an entry there, clear any text.

Re: Split screens in VS 2021
Hi guys,
Thanks for the feedback.
After test period, the only way to fix damages was to re-install everything. So, I did: 2021 and 2022. The 2021 install was new everything - downloads included. And ditto for 2022.
So, the project I mentioned was part of a holiday series, 4th in 7 likely, using 2021. So after not finding the expected split screen templates, I made one using the creator tool. A screenshot of 2021 split screens including that new one and an empty search zone is: And I also checked the new 2022, but it had split screen templates, and also showed the new one I made with 2021, screenshot As for where any templates are, rt-click on one looking for locate isn't an option.
Another example of version cross over??
For 2021 at least, it's not a great hassle, but it should not happen like that.

Locate on PC
Drag and drop a Split Screen to the timeline whilst pressing Shift
This inserts the file as a flattened single clip.
Right click that for the montage file.
These files can be inserted to the Media Library not to Templates?
Now can be used in the same way as using any you create using the Split Screen Creator

Re: Split screens in VS 2021
Trevor,
Not sure what your intend with that.
But trying it out in 2021, drag n drop to TL with shift key pressed - does nothing.
Just drag n drop to TL - expands the split screen (the one in my library) into a TL item plus 2 overlay placeholders, that can be replaced with actual photos or vids. Here's acreenshot of a pic change (you might recognise where it is) And clicking on the components will get a location for the component, but the composite split screen icon in the library pane - no.
Update
I can add a split screen to an empty TL, or at the end of an existing TL, but trying to add one between 2 clips - even with ripple editing set - is a failure. The split screen is only half displayed and that half just over-rides the trailing clip in the TL. Screenshot

Re: Split screens in VS 2021
David
If we complete the Montage using Split Screen Templates Creator adding our clips / images etc, when complete selecting OK will return to the timelines with our montage showing in the Media Library, (Note Media Library)
Select Export As Template will add the effect to the Templates Split Scene library.
I find selecting Ok best.
Selecting OK creates a Montage file similar to a VSP it is not the same as a Templates Split Screen Montage.
and if we wish from the Media Library a double click will open the SS Creator to continue editing the effect.
We cannot do that from the Templates – Split Screen clips.
Now we can drag and drop whilst holding Shift will drop ( flattened) between our clips just like inserting any image file.

Re: Split screens in VS 2021
Trevor,
That works. left click on the screen template in the library, drag to TL, and press shift key before releasing the mouse button.
And I can move it around to position in the Tl as needed, eg from the start to between 2 clips. Screenshot. What I can't seem to do/find out: is having positioned the montage in the desired place in the TL, expand it to it's constituent elements so the placeholder clips can be replaced with desired photos or vids. And if I could, after replacing the placeholders, return it a montage so it can be moved around. There's nothing in the user guide - as usual, it has very little content about technique, is mostly about the feature(s). Any suggestions?
I recall using split screens with a project some years ago (2018/2019?) and don't recall it being this tedious.

Re: Split screens in VS 2021
First there are two types of Split Screen templates
1 / from the Templates library are the programs Split Screen, double click these and nothing happens.
2 / templates made by us using the Split Screen Templates Creator
If you wish to open the library templates from 1 using SST Creator
We can drag the montage to the timelines , Shift and drop flattens the image
Right Click for Locate on Computer finds the montage files
Corel\Corel VideoStudio 2022\EditingStyleReplaceable\Style\Split Screen\PAL
Import these to the Media Library, create a new folder for these, think of these as type 2
Double click one of these opens Split by Screen Templates Manager
Insert your images
Ok to that and we are returned to the timelines a new Montage containing the images is placed in the library. Drag this to the timelines, a shift flattens and drops anywhere.
Not happy with the result, double click montage in library opens the creator.
You can of course create your own Split Screen montage, then hitting OK places that in the library, these are for want of a description user defined templates, more versatile unlike the Templates – Split Screen library ones
The Timeline scrubbing that is active even though deselected is a real pain when working with these templates.
Oh just had an error failed to save document, needs testing, maybe a one off.
Attached is a montage, import to the Media Library, you may have to relink the clips depending on where you installed 2022

Re: Split screens in VS 2021
Trevor,
Thought about this o'nite, still don't understand.
1. your expanded dynamic quarters montage won't import to VS2022 - open with 2022: no, drag n drop to Tl or templates: no
2. I think you may have misunderstood my query:
a. I can create a split screen on an empty blank vsp, and build a project around that provided I don't ever want to move the split screen in the vsp sequence.
b. I can create a flattened split screen per procedure above, and I'm able insert into a vsp and to move it around in the time sequence of the project.
c. what I can't yet do is toggle the split screen between flatened (to be able move it) to expanded - to be able to replace the placeholder files, and the reverse - having replaced the placeholder files with images or vids in the expanded screen, flatten it again to be able to move it.
My query to you was about c, and I don't see how your reply actually answers it. Maybe the inability to open the montage is the problem?
