Re: Excessive Lagging In Editor
So I've tried and tried to get VS2020 to work consistently to no avail. It works kind of ok one time and then the next two or three times it just lags to the point of uselessness. I contacted Corel a couple of days ago and received no response. If it's not a VS issue then can anyone point me to another possible issue? Display adapter? Hardware? I've uninstalled and reinstalled the newest drivers for my display, checked just about every driver with no results.

Hi John
I know you have tried Smart Proxy, please make sure the proxy files have been created, they can take some time to create
Once created we see a double looking icon on the clips in the library and timelines as attached image.

Trevor - Only 4 of the videos in this list have smart proxy files. What am I doing wrong and why didn't I ever need them before a couple of months ago? I'm more and more convinced this is a computer issue more than a VS issue. My laptop startup time has increased to over a minute whereas it used to start cold in like 20 seconds. John

Re: Excessive Lagging In Editor
If you think your computer is capable of editing video without SmartProxy files being created, turn SmartProxy off in Preferences > Performance tab at the very top. Certainly, looking at your computer specs, it seems to be a powerful one so should be able to edit many types of video without SmartProxy.
But some types, especially when you are getting up towards 4K and formats like H.265 (which the last couple of GoPro Hero cameras can be set to use), it is often better to create SmartProxy files. As you probably know, a SmartProxy file is a low resolution copy ("proxy") of the original video, which is easy and fast to edit. And when satisfied with everything, those edits in the final render are applied to the original high resolution video. But as lata says, they can initially take some time to create if you have the SmartProxy box ticked in Preferences, so you have to be patient at that stage.

Re: Excessive Lagging In Editor
Smart Proxy files are automatically created after inserting our clips to the timelines
We can also right click a clip for “create proxy files”
This also works from the library where we can select multiple clips.
We can view the process from Settings – Smart Proxy – queue manager
Also view the created files Settings – Smart Proxy – File manager
Check the proxy settings from preferences F6 - Performance tab.
Your video frame size has to be larger than the frame size set here.
