VS 2021 Ultimate - No Proxy File for mov

I have just realized that my VS 2021 Ult does not create proxy file for mov files with the following specs.
Any idea why?

I don't know the answer, but I'm assuming you have enabled SmartProxy in Preferences > Performance, and given it plenty of time to make the proxies. You have to be patient as it can be a lengthy process. I assume also that you are not just right clicking on clips and selecting Create SmartProxy Files without SmartProxy being already enabled in Preferences. That would leave Create SmartProxy files greyed out.

If you have done the above, and believe the mov HRVC files can't have proxies, asking Corel might be your only way of finding out. But I suspect the answer is going to be that SmartProxy has simply not been written or expanded to deal with that form of HEVC video... I don't have any HEVC encoded as .mov, so I can't try it out. I only have mp4 and mkv HEVC, though even the mkv HEVC presents problems for me as the video stream comes out as black.

It's probably not what you want to hear, but have you tried putting a short sample of your mov HEVC through a video converter to produce an mp4 HEVC with the same properties. Can you make a proxy with that?

Just to see what would happen, I put that blank mkv clip in the freeware Handbrake converter, and set it to use HEVC as the format and similar properties. The new clip has the Handbrake .m4v extension, but is HEVC and fully visible and audible in the VS timeline for both 2021 and 2022. So it could be an experiment worth trying.

Moreover, with SmartProxy enabled in Preferences , and with HEVC mp4, (blank) mkv and new HEVC m4v clips in my timeline I could right click and choose to create proxies manually in VS2021. So another reason to think about converting the mov files if nothing else works.

Further to my previous post, I have done a search and finally found two HEVC .mov samples. Coincidentally, both are 4K (3840 x 2160) though my computer happily plays those smoothly in VLC and other players. Unfortunately, I get the same in VS 2021 with them as I got with my mkv videos: there is no video (black) though the audio plays. In both cases, though, right clicking them allows me to Create SmartProxy Files if that served any purpose.

However, again using Handrake, I converted them to mp4 clips using HEVC 4K properties, and they insert and play properly in VS 2021.

I forgot to ask: what do you see when you insert one of your mov clips in the timeline? Do you see a scene from the video or is it black too like mine?

Another question is whether you have ever installed the Microsoft HEVC Video Extension. If not, you may want to Google for a way to get it free, or go straight to the MS Store and buy it for US$0.99...!

I am not 100% sure but I remember that my PC was handling proxy files via HEVC mov files well.
I am just clicking create proxy and follow the status in Proxy File Que manager. So I do not need to wait. I could see the process. But recently my PC stopped doing thar for MOV files.
Also I have installed the HEVC support extension and I have no issue viewing the files in timeline.
