Way Too Many Error Messages Durring Repair
Greetings,
"If I didn't have bad luck, I would have no luck at all."
Back Story: I installed VS2020 Ultimate about two years ago for the very rare occasion that I make movies of vacations, grand kids, etc.. With the help from this forum, I successfully saved a vacation to Blu-Ray disk.
About a year ago (If memory serves), I upgraded from VS2020 to VS2021 Ultimate. Shortly afterward, my hard derive crashed and I had to reload all my software. Since that time, I successfully rendered many movies for computer viewing with the *.m2t or *mp4 extension. These movies have been saved to a thumb drive. All is good.
Several weeks ago, I attempted to render a larger movie to *.iso format, with zero success in my many attempts. I have followed the very good instructions from this forum to the letter, with no success. However, the video looked and ran beautifully in the Preview Section of the Burn Module.
As you can see from my screen shots, selecting to "Create To Disk", fails because it says "I do not have enough disk space". However, my hard drive is 2T; i have plenty of space. Am I understanding this message properly?
Today: I began thinking there was a problem with the software installation. So, I executed the VideoStudio2021_Online.exe with the hopes of finding a “repair” feature. Sure enough, there is. In the process of checking and repairing VS2021, it encountered an error message 12 times. The repair finished, but with the same message: "The setup encountered a problem while trying to configure your software."
It seems (I'm guessing) something is radically wrong with this installation, and I have no idea how to correct it. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Alternatively, is my issue better served by Corel Tech Support?? Perhaps I should uninstall and reinstall the software?? I'm completely at a loss.
I'm currently attempting another burn to *.iso now after running the repair function. However, I don't have much confidence in the results.
This is a very long post. I'm sorry. But my problem, I think, warrants a detailed explanation.

Re: Way Too Many Error Messages Durring Repair
From one Ken to another! First off, since you have ticked the box beside "Create disk" as well as the ISO box, VS assumes you have a blank Blu-Ray disc in your burner drive. That is what it means when it says there is not enough space -- 0 GB available since there is no disc. It is not your hard drive it is talking about... So if you only want an ISO, untick the Create Disk box...

Re: Way Too Many Error Messages Durring Repair
Hi Ken and thank you for your rapid response. Now i understand the "Create Disk" check box. However, as i mentioned -- perhaps i was a little confusing -- after attempting to repair VS2021, i attempted again to create an ISO of my project (with the "create Disk" unchecked. The ISO did get created along with a file folder with the correct title and in the location i specified. However, when i double click the ISO file, nothing happens.
I'm still mind boggled as to why i got so many error messages when i tried to "repair" VS2021. That does not make sense and I'm wondering if there might be a correlational.

What are you expecting to happen when you click on the ISO? Have you got the freeware VLC player on your computer? If so can you select the ISO with VLC and play it?

Re: Way Too Many Error Messages Durring Repair
Im sorry, Ken. Yes, i am still using the VLC Media Player that was recommended to me before. I mistakenly assumed VLC was associated with an ISO file -- or visa versa. Apparently not. Anyway, i opened the VLC player and pointed to the ISO file. The ISO file opens. However there are ongoing issues. The image only plays for about 10 seconds, then repeats. Also, the image is stretched vertically. The movie was created with a 16:9 ratio, yet it is quite distorted. Attached is the Properties for this project. The project is set for AVCHD although I'm rendering to Blue ray. Ive tried it both ways (BluRay and AVCHD) with no success. I guess I've tried everything i can think of. But much of this is rather confusing.
I know, my problems are many.

Re: Way Too Many Error Messages Durring Repair
I see you were also creating Blu-Ray folders. Can you open that with VLC? Or if the folder has m2t files (or other obviously video files), can you play those. Are they distorted too?
Back to the ISO -- right click it, and in the menu which appears, there should be a "Mount" command. Select that. It will make the ISO a virtual drive of your computer. Again if you look in it, you should be seeing video files. Try playing them too. How do they look?
Apart from that, though, it is starting to look like you may need to uninstall totally, then reinstall. Use the cleaup tool for that which you will find in https://forum.corel.com/viewtopic.php?p=329686#p329686 It should also remove the installation file in Program Files (x86) as well as all the 64 bit files in Program Files. Make sure the x86 folder for VS 2021 is gone as well as the one in Program Files. Then reinstall using the installation files you should have got from Corel or Cleverbridge. Hopefully that should begin the whole process afresh.

Re: Way Too Many Error Messages Durring Repair
Hi Ken - Thank you again for all your help. Yes, there are two m2t files in one of the folders. I did try opening the m2t files with VLC and they do work. So, I right clicked on the ISO and selected MOUNT. The attached image shows the result. As you can see, the added file folders are listed under my DVD drive. But, the DVD drive is empty and was empty during the burn!! This is becoming quite frustrating. But, i will continue as you have suggested and ill get back with you either way.
Thanks again, Ken. You've been a great help.

Re: Way Too Many Error Messages Durring Repair
It may be called a DVD Drive but it is the Blu-Ray alright. And in a Blu-Ray disc, the video is in the BDMV folder. So you could point VLC there.

Re: Way Too Many Error Messages Durring Repair
If you have created an ISO and a BDMV folder using the same project settings and source files then the contents of those folders should be the same.
I right click the ISO to choose open with VLC, easiest way to play.
We can open and play the files from BDMV-Source folder containing the m2ts files, one being the menu the other the video. You say you have done that and played using VLC.
You can do similar with the ISO, to explore the files, think of the iso as a zip file, I use Winzip to unzip the iso showing me the BDMV folder I can now view the m2ts files.
Adding those to the timeline will allow us to check there properties and content of each m2ts, are they both the same?

Re: Way Too Many Error Messages Durring Repair
This is a great learning experience for me. Much of it, however, is still quite confusing.
I have a file folder called "STREAM" in the BDMV folder. In the STREAM folder are two m2t files (0000.m2t and 0001.m2t) and it appears one is the menu and the other being the movie. I can play either file with a media player.
I will continue my exploration in a few days. Meantime, thank you ALL for the great guidance.

Re: Way Too Many Error Messages Durring Repair
Back to my issue:
Attached i have included a screen shot of the ISO file if i Right Click and select "Open With VLC" from the fly-out menu. As you can see, the image is cut off on both sides. Also, the image is of the menu only. Plus, there is no sound.
So, now I'm wondering if i have a problem with the VLC Media Player and not VS. This is very perplexing and I'm considering the use of a sledge hammer!
Ken, you had suggested an uninstall and re-install of VS. Maybe i should consider an uninstall and re-install of the VLC software also?? I cant help but wonder why i got so many error messages when i tried to repair the VS software.

Re: Way Too Many Error Messages Durring Repair
Something else i learned after reading the information Ken posted about the Corel "Cleanup Tool" -- as i mentioned above, i had VS 2020 Ultimate running before my PC crashed. After the crash, I had to replace the hard drive and reinstall the Windows 10 OS. After doing so, I do not recall if i reinstalled VS 2020 before i upgraded or if i upgraded without reinstalling the previous version (if thats is even possible). My point is, apparently, according to the information Ken sent on the "Cleanup Tool", conflicts between versions of VS are known to have happened. (not good Corel)
I cannot find any evidence of a previous installation of VS. However, I'm not confident I'm looking in the proper location as there may be registry entries at issue here as well. So, the issue I'm having now is actually the first time i have attempted to create a Video for use on a BluRay or DVD since i installed VS2021. My attempts at creating a video to be played on a PC, Phone or Computer have all been very successful.

Re: Way Too Many Error Messages Durring Repair
Yes we can install Video Studio 2021 without the previous version 2020 being installed.
If you view your start menu your installed Corel programs should be available there otherwise they are not installed
Uninstalling 2021 Ultimate does affect other versions, version collisions.
This appears to affect the Pro Dad plugins, reasonably easy to correct, just a bit of a pain.
I doubt this will affect burning DVD or Bluray discs
The aspect of the ISO is certainly unusual, I mentioned that we can access the Iso by unzipping, this gives access to the BDMV folder where we can find the m2ts video files within the Stream folder.
Do they play ok?

Re: Way Too Many Error Messages Durring Repair
Hi Trevor - Good call on checking the Start Menu for VS 2020. See attached.
I am able to access the m2t file in the BDMV>STREAM folder on my hard drive without unzipping. They both play fine. So i went ahead and unzipped the file anyway. I located the m2t files in the same location as they are on my file system and they both play fine also.
So, should i go ahead and try burning to disk to see what happens, or should i uninstall and reinstall, or should i get the sledge hammer?
If i burn to disk, i do it from within VS, correct?
