MF3 won't burn dvds any more

Post by Brownie »

I have been using Movie Factory 3 for about a year to burn movie dvds. Recently it stopped burning dvds.

I get these error messages:

"The target drive might be having some problems" (5209)
"Failed in performing power calibration" (dvd +r spti 2a 02 03 73 03)

I also tried the sample version of Movie Studio 9 and got the same result.

Seems like my dvd burner (a Pioneer) might be bad. Anyone know what I can do to be able to burn dvds again?

Thanks in advance.

Have you got another burning program to compare? If not, you can get a free one.

eg. http://www.nero.com/en/nero-prog.php

I think Nero Expr 6.6 here is free to use...

I downloaded it to upgrade the Nero Express I got with my drive.

But then I installed it on another machine, where no Nero had gone before AFAIK... and it worked on that machine too.

But if any problems with that one (IMO, a very good one) there are loads of other free burning programs around if you Google for em...

MF3 burning never worked for me, so I got in the habit of using Nero. It's better anyway: a lot more visibility and control.

A BlowTorch.

Hardware or software problem?

Any idea whether this is a failure of the dvd drive or a software issue?

Power Calibration is usually a sign of incompatible media. So if your using
a different brand of dvd's than before may be an issue.

Try making a simple slideshow using MF and a CD (not a dvd).
Set the burn speed to 4x or 8x. If that works then try the higher settings.

Can you at least READ anything using the Pioneer DVD Writer?
Try playing a Dvd movie or reading a cd/dvd.

If you can't at least read a cd/dvd then take the computer to a tech shop
or take it apart and check the connections on the back of the unit.

If none of that works you may want to use the Blowtorch, having to shell
out money for a new burner.

I thought that Pioneer has a LOW failure rate. Supposedly reliable drives.
Double check the dvd's your using.

Hope this helps,

MD
