Hello,
I had to move the SmartProxy directory to another hard drive. After that the link in the program between the original video files and the smart proxy files was no longer available, and VideoStudio only offers to recalculate the files. Is there a way to relink the existing smart proxy files?

Re: VideoStudio 2021 - How to relink SmartProxy files
I'm assuming a drive malfunction of some sort caused a replacement, which in turn got "lettered" differently by the OS. So, suggestions:
1. review the OS method of lettering drives: you can restore the old drive letter that had the proxy folder to the new drive that has it now. Possibly tedious and assumes that you just recovered the content of the old drive to a new one, and proxy folders won't work because that new drive has a new letter.
OR
2. Change the proxy folder location - where VS stores all the proxy files - in preferences to specify the new location. See screenshot.
OR
3. If you have made new proxy files in a new location and simply want to re-link all the proxies to a single location, I guess you'd choose the folder that has the most proxy files in it as the place where you would want them to be: this reduces the amount of file copying needed here. In this case
a. set the preferences panel, performance page to the proxy location desired, see 2 above; and
b. copy the proxy files from the whichever location is to be "redundant" to the one that you want to use. Use the proxy file manager to identify which files are proxies (generally, they have a filetype of .upx - see screenshot) and then use windows explorer to copy these files to your VS specified proxy location. If that makes sense.

Re: VideoStudio 2021 - How to relink SmartProxy files
Many thanks for your response,
it is as you described in point 3.
I moved the folder from C:\...\Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\24.0\SmartProxy to F:\Corel VideoStudio Pro\24.0\SmartProxy and changed the proxy folder location accordingly. When I copied the upx files there, however, they are not recognized by VS. VS generates new files, which are then named ~Proxy_DJI_0048-1.upx instead of the existing ~Proxy_DJI_0048.upx file, for example.

Re: VideoStudio 2021 - How to relink SmartProxy files
Several points to make about proxy files . .
1. in a vsp, a clip which has a proxy is identified, and where it is. So a new vsp which relates to a proxy which was in the redundant location may not link after the effort to consolidate.
2. The proxy files also includes in their structure the parent file (path/filename) for which they are the proxy. And on start, VS checks the proxy folder to make sure that related 'parents are available on the PC. If the parents are not found, the proxies are deleted - apparently as a space saving measure.
3. proxy files are generally but not always smaller than the parent. Not sure why, but the file size variation can be as much as 20%. However, regardless of size, they do take up space. So after your project is rendered and "put away", manually delete the proxy files it generated.

NAFAIK, so suggest deleting the orphaned Smart Proxy files and recreating them.Volkher wrote: Is there a way to relink the existing smart proxy files?
