PSP 2019 Layers

Post by BenHer »

Hi, I regularly restore old B/W photos and often have to deal with unevenly lit houses. The problem is most severe when I try to restore an aerial photo. The side that faces the sun is often over exposed while the other sides of the house are exposed OK.
Is there a tutorial dealing with layers that could solve my problem. I want to "mask out", a phrase from the analogue darkroom world, the correctly exposed parts and deal only with the other parts which may need different treatment.

See if one of the tutorials on the Discovery Center helps you. It will get you familiar with using masks in PSP.

You may create over- and under-exposed images of your original and use the three versions with the HDR Merge Exposure tool. Sometimes, it helps.

HDR Merge Exposures is just greyed out

Post by mdconner »

In PaintShopPro Ultimate 2022 Manage Workspace. I have many shots with multiple exposures that I cannot merge. After selecting photos (although they do not have an orange border around them), I click FIle>HDR> Exposure Merge is greyed out and is unclickable. This function also does not work in the Essentials or Edit Workspaces either. What am I doing wrong? Please help as I am at a complete loss as to how to proceed.

How are you "selecting" the photos? When I have a photo selected in either the "Manage" tab or the Organizer Palette in the "Edit" tab the only HDR option that's greyed out for me is Single RAW photo. If I have no photos selected in either mode all options are available. Also, are you in the "Complete", "Essentials", or "Photography" workspace?

Not that you have to use the HDR options. HDR, Photo Blend, and just manually aligning layers and using masking and blend modes are perfectly valid options. But it is weird you're having trouble with HDR merge.

Weird I must be. I select the photos in any of the modes with the same result. Nothing works. All options are greyed out. Maybe I should remove and reload?

After an uninstall a re-install and a reboot, every thing works
