How do I do a vignette?

Post by WishIhadCorelPaint »

I've got my preferred color in the Materials Foreground box. But when I go to Photo Effects > vignette, the effect just shows up as white. Same thing happens if I put my color in the Background box. Can't figure out how to get that color into the vignette work space.

The vignette command only has two options light and dark. It's actually one of the top sliders. It doesn't provide an option for color.

There are two different options I can recommend.

1) Graduated Filter command. Also found under Effects -> Photo. It has the option to select a color, use the radial gradient, and move the start and end points. Just play with the settings until you get something you like.

2) The Gradient Fill tool. The Gradient Fill tool can do pretty much the exact same thing as Graduated FIlter, but with fewer overall options. It's just a gradient, add it to a blank layer above your image. And adjust the gradient until you get something you like. Set the inner point to an opacity of zero, the outer point to full opacity. And adjust the outer color . Then it's just working out the spacing.

To add to LeviFiction's suggestion :
Create an empty raster layer above the image.
Set the Foreground color to the color you want (red in my example).
Set the background color to Transparent.
Select the Foreground/Background gradient (see settings in my screen capture).
Fill the empty layer with that gradient.

Hmm. Sounds like I bought the wrong software. I had an ancient copy of Corel Photo-Paint 7 that I had been using for more than 2 decades. It did everything I needed, but then I a) lost the disc, and b) my computer crashed. I just assumed that Paintshop Pro would be similar. I guess what I really need is Corel Draw Essentials. Supposedly it has something similar in its bundle.
