Grouping and moving

Post by Nfd29 »

I have been able to use CTRL A to group all the clips on the timeline fine, but once all are selected I am unable to move them as a group. Should I be using another button with the click of my mouse, or should I be using the keyboard? When I hold mouse button down and try to move it, I get a circle with line through it. Help is much appreciated!!

The only way I am aware of is to use Overlay Track 1 as your main timeline, so you would need to open Preferences\Edit and tick Use Fit-To-Screen as default in overlay track
If you need to still place clips on the main timeline, it will be necessary to place a black color board before the clip to fill the space in the timeline

The technique is simple. It uses an overlay track as the by-pass road, and helps if there are no other clips in the one you use. So, get into track manager and increase the number of overlay tracks by 1; eg from 1 (default standard) to 2.
Drag the clips you want to move to the new empty OL track - they don't have to be contiguous in the main TL, but once in OL, drag them so that they are end-to-ended.
Select the lead clip, and with the shift key held down, then select the end clip. All of the clips should now have an orange border around them and they can be left-click and held, dragged as a single clip along the OL track to wherever in the main TL you want them to be. ripple editing is disabled for this process. When you have them lined up correctly, click somewhere else in the TL and break the all-in-one clip bond, and then brag the clips one by one up into the TL as needed. Done, then re-visit the ripple editing alignments of main, OL, Text and sound tracks to make sure everything lines up again.
