Video Studio 2021 Ultimate does not start
I just bought and downloaded VideoStudio 2021 Ultimate. I ran through the installation without any trouble. This is my machine and OS:
Device name DavesLenovo
Processor 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-1135G7 @ 2.40GHz 2.42 GHz
Installed RAM 12.0 GB (11.8 GB usable)
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Pen and touch Touch support with 10 touch points
Edition Windows 10 Home
Version 20H2
Installed on 11/4/2021
OS build 19042.1415
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.3920.0
When I launch the program I get the splash panel for about 1 minute. It then disappears and nothing else happens. Task Manager shows an entry for Corel VideoStudio, but it is not using any CPU time. It is using memory.
Here is what I have done:
Uninstalled and reinstalled several times.
Removed the files and re-downloaded and reinstalled.
Re-installed then restarted the computer.
used the clean-up routine after uninstall, then reinstall.
Start computer in safe mode and launch the software.
All of these have the same result, as described above. Please let me know if there is anything else I can try. If not, I guess it just doesn't run on my system and I would like to get my money back.
Thanks,
Dave

Re: Video Studio 2021 Ultimate does not start
Dave
Welcome to the forums
Sorry you are having problems in starting Video Studio
It appears you have done everything that we would suggest in re-installing and using the cleanup tool. When you uninstalled I assume you chose to remove personal settings.
There is a folder that can be used as a reset which as far as I know is not removed using the cleanup.
Anyway try a reset by re-naming / deleting the folder “24.0” to “24.0_old”
C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro (x64)\24.0
The folder is hidden by the operating system, by typing %appdata% into the search box will get you through to the roaming folder.
A new 24.0 folder will be created when running the program, launching the program for the first time does take longer to complete whilst this folder is created, and indeed the first attempt may fail with the splash screen disappearing, normally a second attempt should start ok.
Please check the task bar to make sure the program has not been minimised there.
Post updated
Dave I have now seen and approved your other posts so am aware that you have tried other things to get VS running and indeed have reached out to Corel Support, hopefully they will reply soon.
Have you received a Ticket number?
We do not work for Corel so if you pursue a refund then it is Corel Support you need to speak to.
Hopefully this issue can be resolved.

Re: Video Studio 2021 Ultimate does not start
Hi Trevor,
Thanks for your help. I did indeed do the renaming of the 24.0 folder in both locations.
I have put in a support ticket but have had no response from Corel. I spent about 1/2 hr on hold on their tech support, and when someone answered, I was immediately cut off.
I have had no luck with this program and have spent way to much time just trying to get it to load. I am going to ask for a refund.
Thank you,
Dave

Re: Video Studio 2021 Ultimate does not start
Dave
I did pass the post details to one of our Corel contacts with the following reply.
In these cases when I get connected, I will do a lot of what Dave has already done. One small thing though is that I would install under a new admin user, just in case there is something in the main profile that is causing the issue.
Also, he is only running 20H1 -- he'll want to update to 21H2, just to be sure he has the correct build of Windows, and all pertinent information / updates.
I have just checked my system which is running 20H1, I notice Updates are showing 21H2 available, I am about to update that shortly.
Contacting Corel Support, I would try the Chat line option at least that should not simply drop out.

Re: Video Studio 2021 Ultimate does not start
Have you tried starting it again once the splash screen disappears?
Sometimes I get this behavior and it works if I start it again (TBH I haven't checked if the program was still showing in Task Manager).

Re: Video Studio 2021 Ultimate does not start
I agree that there is an issue where the splash screen shows for several minutes then disappears, the program fails to start.
The program does not hang in Task Manager.
A second attempt launches the program normally.
This is quite random and so far I have not been unable to pin down the cause, one thought is it is accessing the internet / corel server, unable to do that the process times out / terminates (APLoading MFC Application) allowing us to run again.
Always works on the second attempt
And as if by magic it has just happened again trying to start Video Studio 2021

Re: Video Studio 2021 Ultimate does not start
Hmmmm, might be internet connection, that's very annecdotal as a thing to cause these. Have only once or twice had VS2021 do this to me, and it was a puzzler because they choose to not give us any logfiles we can use to let us self diagnose issues. I would be suspecting it's that internet issue too, although perhaps it's dying while hunting for graphics drivers, or media codecs. I assume you installed the program onto c: not any other drive, anything else unusual about your setup?

Re: Video Studio 2021 Ultimate does not start
Same issue suddenly with VS2019 Ultimate. Never had this problem.
Tried everything I could find on the forum - renaming 22.0, replace iEncoder, replace HerDocdll, uninstall/clean tool/reboot/reinstall, turning off firewall, disabling internet, uninstalling .NET 6.1 (recently installed) and yelling at Microsoft. Almost yelled at the dog even.
I'm on Windows 10 21H1. This is my 6th version of VS since Ulead V8. Never had such issue.
I see in task manager clicking on "<" on APLoading MFC Application it shows a blank icon with no name. Tells me it's trying to load something that it can't find. If we could figure out what that is we might have a clue.

Re: Video Studio 2021 Ultimate does not start
Yikes - I studied the Windows Event logs and discovered an Application Error was logged every time VS2019 crashed.
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio 2019\vstudio.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio 2019\uvDV.dll
SO, I just renamed uvDV.dll to uvDV-old.dll since I don't have a replacement to see what would happen.
Strange enough it's working now. Only thing is it opened to the Welcome Page like a new install. All the bonus add-ons look to be intact and I can even open last project. I just imported 3 chapters from a DVD that I recorded of a concert that was on my satellite tuner, which is why I tried using VS today. Edit is working fine so far.
Something is probably not going to work, but I'll report back when I hit it.

Re: Video Studio 2021 Ultimate does not start
Interesting, there was another post referring to uvDV.dll
The original poster never replied
https://forum.corel.com/viewtopic.php?p=391320#p391320
Although my program starts ok, that is 2021, do not have 2019 installed, I did rename the file with no change to the program
Opened as normal to the Edit Screen, ( I always set that from Preferences)
I had expected a new uvDV.dll being created when running Video Studio but not so.

Re: Video Studio 2021 Ultimate does not start
I guess the program first opened to Welcome screen because I have removed, cleaned and re-installed. Switch to Edit screen works fine.
I went on to render a video of the concert I had imported from the DVD with no issues. I haven't run into any fallout from renaming uvDV.dll yet but haven't used a lot of titles or transitions. It's gotta break something, although unfortunately it isn't the ad campaign! I have other means to stop that though.
Whatever, I'm much happier today than yesterday. Time may tell.

Re: Video Studio 2021 Ultimate does not start
uvDV.dll update
DV is normally Digital Video, usually DV.Avi from a mini DV camcorder
This would be associated with the Capture tab processes
When I go to Capture – Capture Video the program stalls and finally crashes.
I re-named the uvDV.dll_old to bring it back to uvDV.dll
Now the Capture options appear to be more responsive.
I suggest you do the same and re-name the file, unless the re-install has fixed that for you.

uvDV.dll - don't need it anymore
Interesting - obviously you're right, something to do with DV. When I select Capture Video or DV Quick Scan VS2019 crashes.
BUT, Import from Digital Media, which is what I'm doing, importing from DVDs, works fine. Reinstall didn't fix it so I'm
sticking with no uvDLL.dll. All the edit functions seem to be working too. Someday I'll upgrade VS again.
I don't need the DV options anymore since all my cams are digital now and I've already ripped all my VHS and mini DV.
I will report back if I find something else.

with 2019 was able to fix same problem by renaming uvDV.dll to uvDV_BAK.dll
