Ken,
Regardless of your provided screenshots with no visible codec under a cursory glance, you are missing the point. Just because you and I cannot visibly see the codec doesn't mean it does not exist. VLC is self-contained and maintains all its codecs. It may have a compiler using shared codec packs making the QT codec unrecognizable. I don't know I am not a programmer but what I do know is that this conversation about your ability to play animated GIF without QT is moot. Clearly, I helped the poster by installing QT or an alternative and it worked. It's not magic. Being a Site Admin you should not be so fixated on your phenomena and stick to the tried and true methods. Might be wise to make a sticky.

I am also a user, unlike yourself who has acknowledged here that you have moved on from using Corel products. And this is, after all, a user to user board. So I am entitled to fixate, as you put it, occasionally on things that happen on my own computer...

I tend to agree with you, however, that just because we cannot see a relevant codec in the list, does not mean it is not on the computer already. But it would nevertheless be nice to know if there is any way of resolving the mystery.

Who cares if I moved on to another NLE? Who actually helped the poster? Me not the Site Admin. Funny that a non-user was able to provide the correct info to solve his problem while all you could do was hinder, argue and misrepresent. Make a sticky: VSP needs QT or QT alternative for animated GIF support.

This fixation of your playability phenomena is all about you and your PC, Will it help the other users at this user-to-user forum? The answer is No.

No, the site admins are really users, they don't have special knowledge or insider access to the developer teams as far I know. They just curate and help to share what the community discovers.

For example as a software tester, I should be able to troubleshoot more issues and help more people, but I will rather ask if David, Lata and Ken and others know rather than chase my tail for a day. I know there is a windows tool for listing codecs because unlike VLC and the web browsers, etc, ffmpeg does not internally "hide" codecs. https://write.corbpie.com/ffmpeg-list-a ... d-formats/ I was just being lazy this week and never dug up that old link which probably helped me last time. And just like your hint to install the QT codec @rwerni , we all can help each other.
