Hue Map for greyscale images

Hue Map for greyscale images
You know the 'Hue map' option under 'Adjust'? It allows you to filter specific colors in or out of your image But it doesn't include grey scale images ranging from white to black. So I currently know how to filter out specific colors I'm wondering is there a way to do this with greyscale colors/shades?

Greyscale can be thought of as just brightness. So curves.

That kind of works but what can I do to convert a greyscale color into a real color? Thanks for your response by the way
