PSP 11 Printer Error Message for Scanner

I'm trying to help my brother with a problem. He is using PSP 11 and just got a new computer (Dell Desktop running Win10). He reinstalled his PSP 11 program and it found his printer and he can print to his printer but he cannot scan from his printer. He has selected his printer in "twain source" but when he selects Twain Acquire, the scanning program opens on the "What do you want to scan" window but he gets this error message across that window: "An error occurred while setting scanner properties. If another program is scanning, please wait for it to complete and try again." I know PSP 11 is an old version but I'm hoping someone can help with an answer.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Have you tried File > Import ? From Camera or Scanner? Does PSP 11 now see the scanner?

Thank you for the reply Ken. Yes, he has tried both ways. "Twain Source-Twain Acquire" and "Import from Camera/Scanner". Both ways he gets an error message. What's strange is that PSP recognizes his printer and he can print from PSP and it seems to recognize his printer/scanner when he tries to scan, but he gets the error message when he tries to activate the scan. Here are the two error messages he is getting. Each one is just a little different. The printer is an HP Deskjet 3050A (which is the same printer he used for PSP on his old computer) and it is listed as the printer in both error messages. Thank you for your help.

Firstly this is an outdated version.

Secondly if you are using 64 bit version that does not work with scanning software as no twain driver is 64 bit.

Use 32 bit paintshop Pro

Taiwan drivers were only written for 32 bit. However irfanview used 32 bit component in there program to get this to work. However paintshop Pro haven't and 64 bit version requires 64 bit twain driver which is not avaliable..

Thanks for the info Splash. I know this is a very old version of PSP but it works fine on my 64bit Win10 computer and on my brother's old 64 bit Win10 computer (printing and scanning). You say to "Use 32 bit paintshop Pro". It's been a while since I've installed PSP11. Is there an option to install in 32 bit mode or 64 bit mode? If there is, then I guess he can uninstall PSP11 then reinstall it selecting the 32 bit option. I'll let him know about this possible solution.

I have to make a correction on something I said on my second reply. "What's strange is that PSP recognizes his printer and he can print from PSP". I misunderstood. He has two printers connected to his computer. One is an HP Deskjet 3050A and the other is an HP Laserjet 6P. He can print from PSP to his Laserjet but cannot print or scan from his Deskjet 3050A (which is the one that has a scanner). Sorry for the misinformation.

Splash. I just tried PSPX1 on my newer Win10 Computer which has both PSPX1 and PSPX9 installed on it. PSPX1 works fine scanning from a very old HP 5520 printer/scanner using the Twain Acquire method. So, now I'm confused about what you said about the Twain Drivers and 32bit/64bit. I think PSPX1 only came in a 32bit version.

The more I think about my brother's problem, the more I'm wondering if it has something to do with the two printers he has connected to his computer or a corrupt install on his PSPX1.

Best and easiest solution to see if it is a driver issue, is to try scanning something directly from the scanner to print. If that works then you know the scanner works and the printer and then its a driver issue. If you have worked out its a driver issue then you would need to go to HP and uninstall and reinstall that printer.
