NewBlue chroma key leaves a gray outline on moving clips?

Post by marion64 »

Hello. I use Corel to edit game footage, and while the NewBlue chroma key plugin is mostly better than the built-in chroma key effect, it has one strange issue. If a clip's custom motion is too complicated, a gray outline that can't be cropped out appears around the borders of the clip. If the exact same chroma key settings are applied to the same clip except with less complicated custom motion, then the gray outlines do not appear. Is there a way to get the gray outlines not to appear whatsoever? Attached is a screenshot of the outlines in question. This has been a problem for a few months now, and I have not yet found a way to fix it.

Are you talking about the grey bounding box/rectangle surrounding much of the screen? Or are you talking about the black/green/grey outlines around the Mario figure itself?

I mean the gray box surrounding Mario. No matter what I do, it always seems to stay there unless I remove the clip's motion. One interesting thing though is that it turns a shade of green, the original keyed out color, if I tweak the chroma key settings a bit. I'm not sure if that's helpful information or not, though.

OK, but does this box appear after you have rendered a video from the project?

Hi Marion
You posted earlier this year which apparently this issue did not get resolved
https://forum.corel.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=68331

Can you provide the original video / image, you may have to use a sharing site depending on the files size.
Could you create a short project showing the problem, provide the VSP (you will have to zip that file)

I just tested that, and yes, the gray border still appears after rendering. It also isn't an issue with any specific clip, as I can get any clip I record to reproduce the issue. Also, attached is the VSP I recreated the issue in, along with the relevant video file. The original background image is just a blank white void that doesn't use an image file, so hopefully that carries over?

I managed to have a quick look before my 2 grand kids turned up, now commandeered the computer.
It does seem to be associated with Customise Motion as well as the Chroma filter.

Try adding another chroma mask.
Double click the clip to open the options panels, select the blending tab
I think its Mask Mattes – Mask Frames that you need
There is one that is a full mask, a full white rectangle, about half way down.
I know its next to the one full of small squares, sorry cannot provide a screenshot......

By the way, what version of Video Studio are you using

I messed around with mask frames for a bit, and for some reason, applying any mask frame at all gets rid of the gray outline. Thank you for the help! Also, I'm using version 23.0 Pro.
