copy/pasted item goes from color to b&w

Post by coeurl »

When I try to paste a color image onto a black field I've created using File>New the image changes from color to grayscale.
How can I keep this from happening?
I'm using Windows 10 and PSP 22.2.0.8 x64

Thanks!

It sounds like you're copying from a color image into a Greyscale image, or similarly indexed color depth. PSP doesn't just convert color to greyscale on its own it respects the color depth of the destination image.

When you create your new blank image just above the background color swatch is a drop-down box for various color depths. You can see it here in this image. It says RGB in my example, but other values are "Grey" and "indexed" for a greyscale image. Color depth refers to how much information is stored in each pixel.

You can increase the color depth of an existing image by going to Image -> Increase Color Depth -> Choosing an option from the list.

Or start your new image with full color depth support by choosing the RGB mode in the drop down.
