well, in the course of workflow not so strange, import- autocut - edit, etc.
but of course an autocut should be a real cut.

I have not had time to follow up to test the Autocut
Having read your previous post i believe you are referring to “split by scene”
If done during transferring the Dv.avi to the pc would create separate files for each scene.
Otherwise one large file would be captured at 13 Gb per hour.
Using that within VS and we can apply “split by scene” which effectively cuts the original file into smaller clips but does not create individual files.

Hi Trevor,
yes, you're correct.
I imported a large file into CVS (30 GB avi-file) and did a 'split by scene'.
you can adress the (resulting) individual thumbnails and see that the properties involve the whole video (nr. of frames, filesize, etc.).
so the thumbnails look like individual files/scenes, but they are actually not.

and that's where my Mercalli problem pops up:
I get the scene succesfully rendered but my mediaplayer gives the well-known 'Analysis required' band.

Don

I have tested Split by Scene and using one of the clips applied Mercalli
The rendered file now shows the banner that analyse again.
So does appear that “Split by Scene” is causing the problem

If during capture Split by Scene had been used then all scenes would have their own file and Mercalli should not be a problem.
It is using Split by Scene on a file within the timeline, here each clip is part of the original as though the scissors have been used.

With that in mind I ran a test using the scissors to cut a similar clip, applied Mercalli, and I have to analyse again.
This would suggest that the problem is not simply a Split by Scene issue, Hmmm

I ran another test using the MP4 Sample Lake without problems, its possible that using DV.Avi files may be contributing to this with other files being ok, your tests rendering to MP4 seems to confirm this.

To correct the problem we can from File - Save Trimmed Video which will render the clip to a new DV.Avi file, this can then replace the Split by Scene clip on the timeline, and should correct Mercalli, at least worked for me.

As mentioned--- If during capture Split by Scene had been used then all scenes would have their own file and Mercalli should not be a problem.

Hi Trevor,
thanks for your time and effort.
your remark that the (sent) files differed in 'number of frames' led me to the solution.
normally I capture indeed with cutting scenes directly, but this file was an exception.
but glad we found the cause.

thanks again,
Huub
