Need advice on using Brush Strokes effect

Post by hasl753 »

I've never been able to get the Brush Strokes effect to produce a realistic oil painting or watercolor painting effect. It just ends up looking like a blurred photo or something horrible.

If anyone has had any luck using this effect, I'd appreciate knowing what settings you used.

Maybe Corel would do a video tutorial on the Brush Strokes effect someday.

(I have PSP 2022 Ultimate.)

Here's an idea to get you started. As you can see in the attached, I've duplicated the background layer and applied the brush strokes effect to the copy of the background. Then I changed the blend mode to multiply.

You can experiment with different brush stroke settings and blend modes to see if you get something you are happy with.

Thanks, Kathy.
I appreciate it.

What were the dimensions of the original picture?

Another method:

Create a Media layer: Layers / New Art Media Layers
Select the Oil Brush (or Watercolor)
Important: in the Tool Options Bar, check Trace
On the Art Media Layer, do the strokes. The color will be sampled from the Background layer.
