I have just recently found a pile of used business computers,
3- W10, I7-3770, 16GB, 250G SSD, Nvidia Quadro K620 2GB, Q77 Chipset, "MAHOBAY" MB, Lenovo M92 SFF. (this has HD4000 GPU w/o the Nvidia add on card)
1- W10, I5-6400, 16GB, 250G SSD, Integrated HD530 GPU, Q150 Chipset, "30BE" MB, Lenovo M800 SFF. No room & no PS for hi-power graphics cards-SFF's
--(Would an I7-7700 CPU Upgrade be worthwhile here? vs I5-6400? - More CPU threads, More MHz, 10%-17% More GPU-Integ. HD630, $100-$150 eBay)
I have a current project created with 4 cameras (AVCHD) 1080p, that generated over 100gb of data in 2 hours, broken up into several (31) <4gb files.
(I can see this to be a normal amount & type of data to be generated, per project, in the future)
(This project, I made a mistake and 1 cam was set to 720p, now I have to upscale or downscale something) any advice here? Target is YouTube.
I was thinking I could take advantage of the $25 sale price, and get 4 copies of the 2021VSP Ultimate, and install them in these computers, to combine, and/or compress, and/or pre-edit, the 4 separate video streams, on each of these 4 computers, then combine and final edit the video on 1 computer. (which computer for final editing? I5-6400 6th Gen CPU, or I7 3770 3rd Gen, older CPU but faster, or Upgraded I7-7700 7th Gen CPU, newer & even faster, but still has to be purchased $100-$150 eBay)
Questions, -(more questions)
1. I have (3) VSP2020U, (1) VSP2019U, & (1) VSP2018U licenses already. Would the $100 for (4) VSP2021U's be a good idea or wasted money on this idea?
2. Are these computers worth spending any additional money on in the first place? - They were free, (almost). Keyboards, cables, mice, etc. were needed.
3. Is this idea worthwhile? - (These computers appear to be a giant upgrade over my current setup, (2)-T9500 C2D laptops)
4. Is there a better/different way to look at this setup/opportunity?
5. Is VSP2021 going to have another (or 2), SP's/"Updates", released?
I know there is a lot to unpack here, 8-10 actual questions/ideas.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Re: New Editing Setup-Looking for advice...
And your current one is the 4GB T9500 ?? Are you kidding?
I didn't understand what you want to do with 4 computers, and I don't think VS2021 has any advantage in MCE vs the older ones.
I never edit in MCE but only with main track and overlays, syncing a gig was quite simple. (look at my setup)

Re: New Editing Setup-Looking for advice...
asik1, thanks for your reply.
I don't understand your reference to MCE? (Windows XP Media Center Edition?)
--4 computers vs 1 computer--
I think I would do some work to combine, and/or compress, and/or pre-edit, the 30 or 40 or 50 <4gb files generated by each of the 4 cameras (each camera creates video files 4gb at a time so there are several files to combine into 1 file.
My experience with VSP is
1. That only the first video source, (main track), has a snap function to connect chains of files together (10 <4gb files together) end to beginning of each/next file -->File1 to File2 ... to File9, etc.
2. That each additional video source is an overlay, (overlay track(s)), with no snap action to connect 10 <4gb files together.
1 computer could pre process 1 cameras data...Am I seeing this wrong?
4 computers crunching on 25gb each, simultaneously, seems to be 4 times faster to me...Am I seeing this wrong?
My current project had a mis-calculation--I made a mistake and 1 cam was set to 720p, other 3 cams set to 1080, now I think I have to upscale or downscale something. Am I seeing this wrong?
I admit that I know almost nothing about the capabilities and standard method of approaching video editing, I only know what I just described above.
1. Is there a better way?
2. Is it easier than spending $100 extra for 4 "NEW VERSION" licenses running on 4 computers simultaneously?
3. Final editing would be on the fastest, most capable computer, to combine the 4 pre edited streams of data, to 1 final output stream
Thanks again for your thoughts,
John

Re: New Editing Setup-Looking for advice...
In a nut shell, all you want is to combine the "fragmented" files ?
what video format are they? paste here media info.
There are many free video combiners out there, no need for VS to do just that.
But as I wrote, if your current editing brick is T9500 and 4G , it will not do.

Re: New Editing Setup-Looking for advice...
asik1,
Thanks again for your thoughts,
File Combination is just 1 kind of "pre editing".
100GB+ can require some minutes to complete.
Then selective Time Lapse condensing...
Then selective background noise enhancement/reduction/elimination...
Then possible voice overdubbing...
Then adding a visible "clock" to emphasize the TL process/results...
Titles/text on screen + auxiliary/external graphics...
... per camera data stream ...
These current cameras output .MTS FILES. JVC GZE10's & GZE355's
Of course, different "NEW" cameras will most likely have different file formats.
Thanks for your continued advice.
John
P.S. The T9500 would render in about 36 hours,
I'm hoping for about 36 minutes to 2 hours, for 15min to 1 hour of output.

In addition to asik1's advice, tsMuxeR does a nice job of combining all sorts of files correctly. Even shifts DTS to 2 frames for MTS files so there are no stutters or pauses at each file merge.
