I've only ever used Videostudio. VS and me have done a lot of great projects together and I will always have fond memories of our time together. But I'm wondering if there are other video editors that don't have some of the maddening difficulties inherent in VS. Let's not get into gory details and have this get ugly. I'm not saying we're breaking up, just that I want to start seeing other people. It's not you VS, it's me.
Recommendations? I'm on Windows 10.
Thanks,

Re: How does VS rank against other competing video editors
Sure, there is a long list of other NLEs. Apart from VS (every version since version 7 many years ago), I also have: Cyberlink PowerDirector; Vegas Pro 18.0; Vegas Movie Studio Platinum; Pinnacle Studio; Adobe Premiere Elements; Magix Movie Edit Pro and Video Pro; and Resolve. I get good results particularly with Vegas Movie Studio apart from VS.
But I have to quickly add that each and every one of those programs, like VS, also have their problems and quirks -- quite apart from the difficulties of coming to grips with sometimes very new and highly sophisticated ways to do certain things, which is certainly the case with Vegas and Resolve. In addition, some of these programs do one or two things better than others; with some they lack some things we take for granted in VS.
In most cases I come back to VS simply because I have been using it for so long, and have become used to its quirks and I know workarounds for many of its problems. If I need something very specific which VS does not do well or just does not do, then I will look at one of the other programs. But you need to bear in mind that even with its problems, it will often be quicker to use VS simply because you know it better than many of the other programs.

Suggest that you identify the difficulties of concern; the type of video editing you're interested in, e.g. hobby or professional; and your budget. This type of information may help people point you towards other NLEs. In any event, you ought to check out user forum of your alternative NLE to see the issues that those users encounter.fingerbreaker wrote: But I'm wondering if there are other video editors that don't have some of the maddening difficulties inherent in VS.
While VS has issues, IMHO the major attractions of VS are it's price, range of filters, and ease of use. When you do move on, please let us know which NLE you chose.
