Displacement Project (Possible layering problem)
I am working on a displacement project. I’ve followed one of the displacement tutorials posted on youtube. I’ve had some success, but have run into a layering problem - I think it's a layering problem. I’ve got the subject the way I want it, but when I try to copy the displacement subject over to a background layer, none of the displacement effects transfer over. I think this is a layering problem, but I can’t seem to figure out where I went wrong. I was planning to start over, but I figured, unless I find out where I went wrong, I will probably make the same error again. I’m new to the forum, so I am open to suggestions on how I can communicate with the group a little better. Thanks!

Can you tell us which youtube tutorial you're using?

Re: Displacement Project (Possible layering problem)
Okay, never watched that one before. When you say "copy displacement subject over to a background layer" what exactly are you doing? Are you saying you completed the entire tutorial and you want the end result to be copied to another image? If that's the case I recommend Edit -> Copy Special -> Copy Merged. This will create a merged version of your final image that you can copy into another image. The only problem with his method is if you want to edit the displacement mapped image you need to do it on the original image, and copy and paste the new result over to the new image.
Another option would be to select all of the layers and put them into a layer group, then copy the layer group over to the other image. This retains the layers so you can continue to edit them.
Essentially the big thing here is that the final result of the tutorial is a combination of all of the layers together. If you only move one layer then all of the other layers that are adding to the effect won't get copied over. You either need to merge them into a flat layer or move all of them over.

Re: Displacement Project (Possible layering problem)
Ok, thanks. That sounds like a couple of good options to try. Will let you know if this works.
