Crazy things happening with MP4

Post by theavy »

I have an issue that has been driving me crazy, and I've had the problem with both VS 2020 and 2021. I'm hoping someone here can give me pointers on what I might look for that could be causing my issue.

I have a fairly lengthy .mp4 video, created with Multi-Cam-Capture Lite, that I trim into smaller segments in VS, using Multi-trim Video. Once that is done, I play the result, and everything is fine. I then go back and add some transitions between the segments, and it never fails that at least one of the segments loses its video. It just turns completely black. One time, I added a fade transition to the end of the last segment, and that segment turned black. I've repeated this process numerous times, and have yet to be able to see all segments if I include transitions.

Any thoughts about what might be happening?

Thanks!
Tom

First, what is the multi-trim video you mention? And specifically, is it a corel program??
Second, it seems that your vsp comprising the trimmed clips plays OK. But clearly adding a transition in the vsp does not agree with something in the trimmed clips.
You should be aware that you can cut and trim clips within video studio - you don't need an external program for that. So one approach to isolating a cause is to do any cutting and trimming within CVS, apply the transition and see what happens. If you use the CVS facilities to cut and trim clips, do you get the same result when you add a transition to the resulting vsp??

The multi-trim video I mentioned is a feature within vsp (right-click on the clip and select it from the menu). I've not used an external program at all. Everything's been done within vsp.

Well, I solved my problem in a way. Instead of using the original lengthy video, I used Multicam Capture Lite to create four shorter video segments that I joined together as one in VS2021. Adding the transitions then didn't cause a problem, and the resulting single video looks fine.

I have found that it is always more productive to work with shorter segments instead of doing a project all at once. As you found, it is easy to join the individual segments. It is much easier to debug a small segment than the whole project.
