Saving Problems

Post by dataplane »

Hello,
In recent months I have quite a lot difficulties with my Paintshop Pro 2020. Some are as follows. Sometimes the name of the opened program on the canvas tab differs from the name of the program on the taskbar; on the taskbar the program name turns to "something.tmp." When this happens, the saving problem always occurs. After the corrections, when pressing the file-save button, it acts as if it saves (the star over the opened program title on the tab on the canvas disappears); but actually it doesn't save.
It quite often gives "run time error" and the program closes itself. When I open it again, the image on the screen belongs to the one some days earlier. Affter that time, I am sure I had saved many times but it hasn' recorded.
This doesn't happen only after the "run time error" automatic closing but it may also happen after savings and normal manual closings afterward.
I very often lose a lot of time. In the recent event, the image was belonged to the one about 15/20 days earlier. I can't figure out how this happens. I had done so much work, all has gone. This happens in recent months, it wasn't so earlier. I will appreciate your help and info.

Have you tried resetting PSP to factory default? That often times will correct a number of errors.

Here are the instructions: https://forum.corel.com/viewtopic.php?f=56&t=67616
PSPX9 | PSP2020 | PSP2021| PSP2022 | PSP2023 & PhotoMirage installed; PSPX | PSPX2 thru PSP2019 owned but not installed

Yes I often reset to factory default according to your suggestions. I had asked about that too.

It sounds like the file has no original image header, so saving it as a .tmp format will make psp crash as it had no idea what format to write it to. (I'm guessing there should really be a default format to prevent this from happening.)
Probably the best way to avoid it is never to use "save" and instead use "save as" to make sure a format is always selected.

Thank you very much for the reply. I didn't understand what you mean by original image header. The image has a name such as .pspimage at the beginning both on the canvas and on the icon on the taskbar. But later it turns to .tmp on the taskbar while its name is still .pspimage on the canvas. I used "save as" command many times but I quit it later because "save" command was working fine. Later I noticed that it was just acting as if it was working. This has misguided me.
I was guessing that the file volume may have caused the problem. Its volume is not so much, it is around 60MB. Moreover some problems also occured with alpha channel saving of the selections. There were about 25 alpha channel selections stored. Later I noticed that 10 of them have missed. By the way, how many selections can we store as alpha channel? In which file alpha channel selections are stored?
