selection tool acting differently on two computers

Post by miltk »

corel pro x6 64bit
windows 7

the selection tool is acting differently on two computers
1...the way i want it to act when i use the freehand selection tool it will block an area i designate and within that area it will smart outline the edge to get a more accurate outline

2...in the other computer when i use the freehand selection tool it is literally freehand, as in i have to draw the specific outline...it is not smart selecting. what do i tweak to get it to smart select

thx

Check the tool options palette (View/Palettes/Tool options -or- F4). With the Freehand selection tool active you'll find the Selection type drop down, with Edge seeker, Freehand, Point to point, and Smart edge options.

i'm not getting those options. view/palettes/tool options is checked, but it is not showing selection type.

you're talking about the edit tab, right?
here are my choices in the freehand selection tool dropdown
selection
freehand selection
magic wand
smart selection brush
auto selection

You select a tool on the Tools toolbar. When selecting the Selection tool, you get the choice, as you said:
selection (to select a rectangle)
freehand selection
magic wand
smart selection brush
auto selection

Then you can select tool options on the Tool Options palette: Menu View/Palettes/Tool Options -or- pressing F4 toggles that palette.

Activating the Freehand selection tool activates options on the Tool Options palette. For the Freehand Selection tool you'll see, from left to right, Presets, Action, then Selection type etc. The Selection type dropdown gives you the options Edge seeker, Freehand, Point to point, and Smart edge.
One of your computers has Freehand selected, the other probably Edge Seeker.
