I need to add a transparency mask over a transition layer in order to blend two sections of an image together. How do I add a transparency gradient to the transition layer? I can't get this to work even after trying this tutorial many different times...

Thanks for anyone's help.

Re: setting a transparency gradient
Just to make sure we're avoiding confusion let's get some terms out of the way. A transparency gradient is just a gradient that has transparency stops inside the gradient. It doesn't deal with masking a layer. If you want to mask a layer you want to use an actual layer mask. And then the gradient should be a simple black and white gradient with no transparency. The mask will handle the transparency for you based on what areas of the mask are black or grey.
1) Add the two images to their own layers, they must overlap for this to work.
2) On the top layer add a new Mask Layer
3) With the mask layer selected Grab the gradient tool and select the simple black and white gradient
4) Use the Gradient Fill tool to add the gradient to the mask layer
5) Adjust the points until the transition works the way you want it to.
I've recorded these steps into a short video (no audio) - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1wevuzt ... sp=sharing
