I get poor Quality after finishing my Videos

Post by Mirrodin »

Hi all,

I am very new to this and using Videostudio Ultimate 2021.

When I finish a project and export it as MPEG4 Format, it gets all blurry and pixelated.

Now I've read in some older threads, that it might be due to smart proxy or something like that and that you could delete the proxy files, which should fix the issue.

Now I have no idea what proxy files are and where I can locate them to delete them. And isn't there another way to fix this issue? My videos are all recorded at 1920 x 1080 and 60 FPS and look great on my phone and even look great when I upload them on my computer. Just after exporting them from Videostudio the quality becomes really poor.

Thanks!

Kind Regards,

This could be several things.
First tho, select a clip in the timeline, rt-click and choose properties. the copy n paste the properties into a response here, or print screen and save the properties as a jpg image and attach it to a response. your response should also describe which steps you use in the Share phase to create the rendered output file that is the issue.

From your commentary, playing the clips in a project file in the edit mode is good - no jerks or other issues. That being the case, you probably don't need a proxy file (if you use full HD, or 4k, VS has issue with the amount of data is has to process, which results in a jerky playing image. That seems to vary with the quality of the PC system (cpu/ram) you run. To overcome that jerkiness, in settings/preferences, performance enable the smart proxy item and use the list box to specify where on your computer you want the proxy files to be stored. A proxy file is a standard definition version of the clip which is used for smooth editing, and any edits are applied to the actual clip during the render (Share) phase. When your project is completed and rendered to your satisfaction, you can delete the proxy files as they do take up space).

Another possibility - since you say you took the videos on a phone - is that the frame rate varies. You specified 60fps, which is an HD rate for NTSC. Is that the way you are using CVS? (ie you are in an NTSC country, not PAL?). If not adjust your preferences in either or both of CVS and the phone to match your environment. In most cases, the most common complaint is a failure message, but a fixed frame rate can be obtained as part of the next item.

Another user has been posting about proxy files on the forum here https://forum.corel.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=68608 and the suggested solution (cycle the clip thru handbrake, for an mp4 output) for that user is also suggested for you.

Your should update your profile with relevant details. on system used etc.

Hey,

thanks a lot for your comment. I've attached a screenshot of the properties. In the share phase I Usually pick this format for my videos:

MPEG-4 Files
24 bits, 1920 x 1080, 100 fps
Frame-based
H.264 High Profile Video: 30000 Kbps, 16:9
44100 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo
MPEG AAC Audio: 128 Kbps

And that's correct I have no issues while playing the video in edit mode.

And I am actually in a PAL country (Germany). My CVS is also set on PAL. I guess since my phone only offers 30 and 60 FPS its set on NTSC and it doesn't seem I can change it on my phone.

Your source file:
  • has a data rate of 19997 Kbps yet you're rendering at 30000 Kbps
  • has a frame rate of 60.042 fps yet you're rendering at 100 fps
You're best to let VS match the properties of your source clips. As well, you may need to convert your variable frame rate source to a constant frame rate one.

Hey, thanks for your reply. How do I let VS match the properties of my source clip automatically?

"As well, you may need to convert your variable frame rate source to a constant frame rate one."

I am sorry but I have no idea what that means or how to do that. I am absolute newbie and I don't know any of those technical terms.

Settings -> Preferences -> General -> Project -> Show message when inserting first video clip

Download a copy of a video converter like HandBrake and explore how to convert your variable frame rate source to a constant frame rate one.

Unfortunately nothing is working. I must say this is a very bad user experience for me and I already regret purchasing this program. Things like this just should not happen, it is such a waste of time and energy.

I used CVS 10 before this and I had no issues after rendering the videos there. This is such a bummer.

Share a sample of your problematic clips and people can see if they have any problems.
