White balance for underwater ocean video

Post by LindaPSP »

Hi everyone--

I'm new to VideeoStudio and could use some advice on correcting white balance. Recently I took videos on a scuba diving trip. My videos have the usual blue cast from the ocean. When I use the built in white balance tool in VideoStudio, it washes them out. Using the sliders isn't giving me the desired results either. I'd appreciate any suggestions :)

VideoStudio Pro X7

p.s. Using white balance correction on videos in lake water works very well :)

Hope that you got a very good price as X7 is from 2014 and there have been 7 newer versions since then.

Trying to get the white balance right in post is very difficult if there is nothing white in the scene to use to set the correct white balance. That's why when shooting underwater, a reference white object is frequently carried for use as lighting conditions change with depth, turbidity, etc.

If you can find a reference white object in the scene then use the pick colour tool in white balance. Sometimes the brightness and contrast filter helps as well.

I've had VideoStudio Pro X7 for years, but am just starting to delve into it.

I can find white areas in my photos, and I'll experiment from there. White balance at the time of taking the video is my preferred method, but my camera didn't have the option, and I haven't had much luck fixing this after the fact. Thank you :)
